Hello!
I tried to look for this informations in the forum and manual, but I couldn't.
I need some help about capturing and bombing planet.

I tried transporting lots of infantry and heavy infantry (several thousands of cargo loads.... also 50'000-60'000 or more) on a planet... but nothing...

How many cargo loads of infantry do I need in order to capture a planet?

About bombing:
I put myself at a good distance (about 800), using a scanner, and a bomber ship... I was able to target planet zones, for example "Defense Bases"..., with platforms near me (so, always refilled, always 12 mirv bombs for each cannon)... but after having launched hundreds of bombs... nothing!

The defense bases, or the enemy infantries are always on... always working...
Furthermore, it seems that the bombs neither touch the ground, nor are destroyed while flying (for example by ray weapons...)... they simply disappear!
Just about a 2-3% of bombs go down and I can see the ground explosion!

I tried to follow the bombs by selecting them and clicking on the bomb camera... I see it travelling and, once near the planet, it simply disappear and my camera come back to my ship immediately...

Why do this happen?
How many mirv bombs do I need to destroy a defense base?
How let the bombs reach the ground/target?

Thank you!!!!

PS: SORRY! I found now that this is a developer forum... I'll try to find the right forum.... bye...

Its not really how much you need its how you do it.

Bombing
You have to do bombing runs, this is when we go about 1200 gu's from planet and start flying towards planet while bombing. Best to have a suppy near you. Follow the bombs in and pull away back to 1200 gu's and repeat.

Infantry
Try dropping the inf after you have bombed the planet clean of either: Infantry, Defence Bases, Power, Technology or Population. Then drop enough inf to reach the planet.

You can also set troops to "Raze" mode (right click them in your cargo list after loading and hit alt+R) and drop them on a structure, they will proceed to destroy that structure and then move onto other structures nearby if there are any troops left after your first target is destroyed. It's an alternative to bombing on planets with lots of defenses and very effective if you're good at piloting a transport very close (within 100 GU of the planet) to drop your troops so the pods don't get shot down. Either way you go a good tactic is to take out any Interdictor bases first, then you can actually target a manual jump very close to a planet to drop troops without taking damage from defenses while flying in.

Bombing can also be done closer to the planet with smaller ships. I've noticed with a Destroyer I have to be around 400 GU from a planet to be able to bomb but with a Corvette I can fly close to 200 GU and still be able to launch them. I don't recommend using Corvettes if there are a lot of defense bases though, you can easily dodge the projectile and missile attacks but the beams will kill you very quickly since you can't dodge those.

As far as the bombs just disappearing, you may have been targeting a structure on the other side of the planet. If you do that the bombs will try to go through the planet to get to the target and just disappear once they hit the surface.

There is also the possibility that you are bombarding a planet with a shield generator which significantally reduces the effect of bombardment.
