this is a copy of the topic i made in the beta forum. i made a copy because i think here more people will read it and make some comments on it.

i think getting credits back in the game might be a good idea. because now everything is for free. wich doesn't add to the depth of the game.

like if you make credits part of the game again and let things cost cred. and i mean let everything cost you cred. modding your ship mounting enhancements building your ships etc etc. you would be doing other like tranny runs and mining to make sure you could get your ships right but you would need combat ships to make sure you weren’t hit while doing that. wich in terms improves team play.

i was thinking along the line of earn credits by selling recourses at starports. you can get them in to ways buy them at a place where they are plenty of those recourses, mine them , or scavenge them from the battle field.

if you make things cost more recourses (this would also ask for a raising of the recourse cap on planets) people would need to build mining planets to provide for there more important planets like sy's(also turn on again that ships cost recourses) . this would improve dynamics of the game a bit because you would need a bunch of mining planets to provide for your sy's and for the planets you are building.

might be a fun idea pure speculation and a random thought here (this alinea) to make that planets got a natural mining multiplier’s barren's are mining planets so a 1.5X but terran are jused for food so they would have a 0.5X multiplier making recourses even less common on terran world's increasing the need for mining planets. also if you do this make a foor a tradable good again. switch it around for food production barren's suck at making food 0.5X but terrans are great when it comes to food production 1.5X making it that barren's wouldn't survive without terrans and terrans wouldn't stand a chance without barrens. this would be a more interesting scenario because you would need a lot of different planets wich are structured/ organised to get good defence and big ships. it would also create the need for more non-military ships around and more things to trade.

you could also think of ways to improve fleet's with. you already have a way to set planets to fleets. why not go a bit further. make it so that only the fleet that owns the planet can build there. make buildings cost money to be build there(this would come out of the fleet treasury if it isn't empty if it is empty it would come from the player building it). the planet would pay like 5%-10% of its income to the fleet(would require a tax building and fleets to have something like a treasurer) that cred could then be distributed amongst members or jused to build more planets. since there are also a lot of none fleeted planets(couldn't think of a better word) these could be build for free. wouldn't cost the player anything would grant them any bonuses because they belong to the faction as a whole.

this scenario wich i wrote above might also require a new kind of ship. and a bit of a edit to equipment. because the tranny's the game has at this point wouldn't be good for the deal. make a new kind of cargo hull or a special ship class wich would not be able to load inf. this way you could make cargo liners with 1-infinite cargo slots without making it a privateers wet dream. no weapons slow sub-light drive and limited jump range making it a weak ship wich always needs a support ship and combat escort to survive.

well that is about my thought if you have any constructive comments please post them. if you just want to flame please pick an other thread post like

NO

with no reason followed behind it won't add anything to the discussion.

credits arent a stand alone mechanic. their function is a conjuction of serveral other aspects that have been allowed to atrophy over the years. credits were just the last piece to go Dodo. wouldnt bet credits on credits making a return anytime before the mission system, if/when that shows up for work

er, uh that is, i mean.

NO.

thats what you're looking for right? No?

Part of the issue with Credits was balancing a scalable economy around them, and implementing the necessary 'gold' sinks that were required by such a system. There was also the potential problem with 'gold' selling which is experienced by many MMO's. With reviewing the game and our goals for where we are headed, it became clear that we can get there while avoiding this common pitfall. This taken into account, we made a consious decision to remove Credits from the game.

As it stands, players can 'barter' between themselves for Enhancements if they wish, although most of the current playerbase will freely give away any such unwanted items.

Idem Dito.

With a addition:
The credits them selves where clean, but the system was flawed. Unless like said above, we get a decent system they will not come back. And currently there is no re-design of the system planned so i guess that means where not planning to bring them back.

Before Shipyards we still had a working in-game economy, there where different credits and if you know where to look there is still one bit of that in the game.
But players could earn credits by scavenging, mining for rare metals or do missions.
The introduction of shipyards was a quick one and little attention was made to the impact of the current working economy, Let alone impact on the game itself. This led to some *ahum* annoyances that we know today, for one; Shipyards & 3 hour scenario maps. another is currently resolved: Lack of oxygen (resource) on any of the planets in scenario to actually spawn ships.
The longer it went on the more the old system got in the way of progress and a decision was made to remove a bundle of em and balance them in a new way. Removing the 8 resources for a single one & removing credits from the players, this should have been done as soon as the problems got detected, but it has been neglected for a long time

But as you know this still does not solve all the problems, but we are aware of them and hope one day to have them all resolved. But while most of us where just players at the time, we still remember them and we try to not let that happen again. We think, we test and hope to make it all better and not worse.
We keep telling our selves, never again like 1.483 , etc.

Its been a little to long of a post. And i know i am still new at the Dev Position, but i hope this will make some parts a little more clear.

Sincerely,
Eledore Massis

Ele,

Mate, we have been waiting for almost 9-10 years now and i am sure most of ds addicts wont mind to wait one more year to see well working/fun play game and credit/mission system. Most of us are pesimistic, incluiding myself. Only thing we want from dev to be loyal as we are to darkspace.

God speed our development progress!

One year??? Naaa just give it 2 weeks™

All that matters is so long as we have people trying to make it right, it will eventually get right. Till then enjoy the ride
