Not having enough space to pick up enhancements is indeed a problem (again though, my old argument of removing them entirely )
Dreads should be able to carry a few more infantry though. Not as much as a transport or station, but maybe 7-8 infantry?
Nothing is guaranteed to stop 10 enemy infantry that have boarded you though. It's all in the randomness of infantry combat. The other day in scenario I was slowly capturing a planet that had 10 heavy infantry left, a mix of veterans, hardened and elite. I figured two more drops with my transport and it's capped.
Nope. 1 drop of 1 berserkers is all it took. Somehow my 10 veteran berserkers killed 10 heavys including hardeneds and elites. I actually thought they disbanded the infantry to let it cap faster, but no I had 2 elite berserkers left after that fight.
Sometimes you just have really bad luck and a transport caps your fully defended station. Other times you're the transport trying to capture an AI ship, and it takes you 80 infantry before it caps.
