Not even sure of either of these are possible.
1) Would Really Really Like: If platforms wouldn't fire on a ships on the far side of planets. It's not going to hit them and it make platforms a little useless when they do that.
2) Would Like: Taget platforms, sometimes they just fire at whatever, not even the closest ship. I was playing in MV and rather then firing on a ship 300gu away they were firing on ships 1000 GU away or they completely ignore a ship. i had a suppy come up next to the platforms and they ignored it and fired nothing at it.
Just two things i've seen.

platforms have ammo and need to be reloaded every now and then. As for "Smart targeting," I disagree with switching targets, as that is rather taxing; but the obstacle problem should be a fairly simple fix.

I have seen on several occasions that platforms shoot at multiple targets.
Mostly Ion cannon at one ship and CL at a other close by.
The problem i think is that once a weapon on a platform has a target lock it won't pick a new target untill that target is no longer avalable (disapeard as a target, either ecm or out of range).
Might be interesting to look over the platform targeting.
And if i might make a suggestion.
Just add a routine for all platforms in the server to redirect there weapons to the closest target afther a time ? 30 seconds?
(Makes it less resourcefull if you have the timer for the whole server instead of a timer for each platform)

That idea could fix both issues. It would give up at firing at the ship thats far away hidden behind the planet or other object and target the nearest.
personally I think they should target the nearest ship no matter what because that tends to be someone coming to drop inf or something.

Indeed 1-2 seconds sounds more like the recharge time for a light weapon.
Not to redirect to target.
I mean if two targets close and one gets 0.1 gu ahead of the other and a second later its reversed. the platform will shoot at two targets...
I would prefere that the platform would atleast shoot/kill one target and not get both of the targets at ~30% armor before getting killed...
