I came across an interesting story today, of which most people will be unawares...

From slashdot.org:
NoScript Adds Subscriptions To Adblock Plus
"Apparently, NoScript has taken to adding its own whitelist updates to Adblock Plus — so that the ads on the NoScript page show up — without notifying users. (It is described on the NoScript addon page, however.) This was a part of the last update to NoScript. Wladimir Palant, the main developer of Adblock Plus, describes the situation in an informative blog post."

And from AdBlockPlus.org:

Attention NoScript users · 2009-05-01 19:54 by Wladimir Palant

Recently I wrote about how not giving extension developers a good way to earn money might lead to very undesirable effects. The recent events give an impression of the kind of effects we should expect here. This is going to be about the popular NoScript extension which happens to make its money from ads. And to make sure that somebody sees these ads it goes pretty far...

The entire purpose of the above extensions are to block advertisements. Instead, NoScript has been implementing methods to purposefully bypass or disable parts of the Adblock Plus extension - without notify it's users.
The latest 'update' make me seriously consider removing this software from my installation.
Personally, I would have had no problem with NoScript, had they actually asked to be added to my AdBlock Plus whitelist, but modification of other extensions without user consent like this is a big no-no in my book.

Your thoughts?

maybe for every add that gets thru, u contact that company and tell them that because they are using such tactics, you will not only not buy their crap or services or whatever, but you will actively tell everyone you know about it and make sure they do not either.
Is this an issue with foxfire? or is this something else. I just use IE, so if it is, whatever.
Either way, yeah, the idea that somebody goes thru all that to work around your programs that are specifically meant to block such activity seems more like hacking, and seems to open somebody up to a class action lawsuit as well....
