Ok so this guide will get your foot in the door, the rest is up to you.

The basic game mechanic of prestige is simple:
- Doing good stuff gains prestige
- Doing bad stuff loses prestige

Prestige:
In DarkSpace your ability to fly ships is determined by Prestige and Badges. Ill cover badges later. To gain prestige the 5 things you can do are Combat, Bombing, Supply, Construction and Capturing planets.

Each of these tasks will gain you points towards the task. For example resupplying (repairing) someones damaged ship will gain you repair prestige. Each point in this section does not equal 1 prestige. All of the areas have varying prestige values for balance.

Badges:
To gain a badge, you do the task the badge is linked to. For example, bronze combat is 50 combat points. So once you gain 50 combat points by shooting someones hull you'll automatically get the badge.

Some ships require badges to fly, so keep that in mind if you've gained sufficient rank but still cannot fly the intended ship.

The foot in the door part:

OK, so you've downloaded and installed DarkSpace. and updated it. connect to the Rogens Rift server, this is the newbie area. Fly the Assault Corvette on the UGTO faction, this is the best place to start.

To choose a spawn point rotate the map around (right click and hold) and try to double click on locations. You'll see the spawn points are white. Where doesn't matter a whole lot at this point. So spawn!

You're in your Assault Corvette now, time to do some quick user interface modding. Right click once on a cannon, and press the number 1 key above QWERTY, this assigns that item to 1 as it activation key. Repeat until they are all hot keyed to 1. Then put your torpedoes to number 2, and your laser weapons to number 3. The reason for this is your going to learn from the beginning to not be lazy and 'mash the spacebar'.

Once you're set up you're good to go. Press f2 to open the Navigation Map and find a red planet (hostile) and click it once. Press f2 again to exit the map. Find the red diamond now by rotating your camera around, and orient your ship towards it using the arrow keys or the WASD keys and throttle up to about 10gu/s.

Navigation:
Faster and slower are determined by the 'q' and 'w' keys. You'll notice your ship will continue at the desired speed until you tel it otherwise. To turn use the A key for left, the D key for right, and S key to center rudder. I'll take this time to point out that flying into planets is not the best thing to do. I'll also point out that if the 'jump line' (the line between you and your distant target) is red, you must adjust it. Press f2 now and make sure the jump line to the hostile planet is white.

Combat:
OK, all set? Press 'j' and your ship will jump to that planet. When you land, you'll hear the 'new contact' noise. This is probably the planet launching missiles at you. Time to dodge.

Press the a and d keys to start your ship in a 'weave' and look for bad ships (press e). If you have located a hostile ship, see what kind it is in the bottom right of your screen. If its a Frigate, Transport, Engineer, or Scout, fly at it. If its a station, cruiser or destroyer, fly away from it. They are too big for you right now.

Once you're within cannon range your cannons will 'light up' a bit. keep dodging and start shooting your cannons (1 key). Once the hostile ship starts flying towards you, keep doging and continue firing. Do not fire your torpedoes yet.

The merge:
This is the part where your two ships 'pass' each other in space. About 100 gu before the merge, hard turn to one side. Once the merge happens, reverse your rudder and swing in on his tail. Keep hammering him with cannons. Once he is flying straight, and your straight behind him, stop dodging and unload your torps. Take note to their proximity of the hostile, cause if he dodges before they explode, hold shift and press '2' to manually detonate them, and you'll cause splash damage.

The Kill:
Killing ships does not matter. Say what? Getting the kill does not gain you prestige. Doing HULL damage does, so that's what you want. If the bad guys gets away with 5% hull, leave him and attack the next target.

The Arcs:
Red arcs are hurt arcs. Shoot them not the green ones and you'll hit hull faster thus gain prestige faster. If there are no red arcs, make one.

OMG! I'm dieing!
Orient your ship so your not facing any planets, click once in space to deselect your current target and press SHIFT-J. This is the emergency jump. Abort your jump after 5 or 6 seconds, or if your going to hit a planet. Throttle up to full speed and HOOF IT cause your about to have company.

Once your jumpdrive is charged, and your flying full speed away from the bad guys, press f3 and click on one of the friendly planets listed in the bottom left. Now press f2 and make sure its a white line, it is? Good. Press f2 and then J to get the hell outta there.

Later on you'll learn to recognize "depots" on planets, which will heal you fast, and you'll want to jump to those planets.

Next level:
OK, you've gained some prestige, now what? Have you ranked up? Are there friendly ships around? If there are friendly players around, hop into a "defense frigate" and use the resupply drones on them to gain supply pres. No one around? Hop in a engineering ship and build a supply platform or 2. (these will greatly help in your killing endeavors)

Building a supply platform:
Orbit a friendly planet in a engineering ship. Click the planet and press "o".

Press f3 and locate the starport (the icon that looks like this [>o<]... sorta.)
once starport is located, select it and press "L" to Load resources. Once you're full (only 5) ctrl-click a spot in space beside you. On the right side of your screen there are 3 options, choose the "supply" one. Once the platform is done, click it and press "u". This will send the remaining resources in your hold to the plat to sustain it.

Changing ships:
To find a shipyard, press ctrl-y. If there's an error "There are no shipyards in the system" then your boned. If there is, press f2, then spacebar (to center screen on it) and then highlight the planet. You don't want to jump directly to the shipyard in case its on the far side of the planet and you end up in said planet. Once you're in orbit of the SY planet, press ctrl-y, then ctrl-u (use) twice.

Must remembers!!:

-never go into a jumpgate without your jumpdrive being fully charged.
-if you cannot jump, your jumpdrive may be recharging. if not, make sure your not within 1000gu of a hostile planet.
-dont shoot friendlys (green guys) that will cause friendlyfire (bad bad)
-be civil and nice to people, and they may help you.
-NEVER go afk at a planet.
-once your of sufficient rank (captain), its time to leave the newbie faction and join either ICC or Kluth.
-dont be afraid to ask questions!!! and please dont get upset if they are not instantly answered, people may be busy in combat or afk.
-have fun, and welcome to the best damn MMO out there.

I'd suggest maybe some diagrams or screenshots to illustrate some of your points better - other than that, great!

I knew I was doing something wrong...

As Jack said, diagrams would be nice, but overall this gets my approval. Good work!
