How to bomb.... In 1.500 there has been many changes to how bombing works. The bombing radious is much smaller than it was in previous versions. To kill infantry you need to click and bomb the square underneath the infantry that is on the planet otherwize the blast radious will not reach the infantry to kill them.

Well...

If you want to make a more effective post, I suggest really going indepth, about angle, what parts of the planet to hit, What structures in what position and when to hit or not to hit them.

Maybe some screenshots, Diagrams and such? And even some Damage calculations would be kind of nice, maybe the minimum amount of bombs for an effective hit and so forth?

Try again..

-Infantry within the blast radius take 2 bombs to fully kill.
-Use the scanner and start your bomb run about 1700 out on a defended planet, use about 2 neutrons per square of infantry

Im just adding small parts for forfax to write the actual thing or whoever will..

Heard its 12gu, but not certain so dont want to say.. Just know that they generally dont do damage past their square.

So i bet for all Level bombs. only do damage on the hex your targeting, mostly because planets are increased in size. They might want to crank it up a bit so it does some damage to the nearby buildings.

But to the the primary question, Bomb like its 1,480.
I'm currently rying to find a old bombing guide of that time, when i find it ill post it in here.

I laugh.

I'll write up a bombing guide sometime later.

QFT.

Yeah, it's basically selecting what you want to kill and dumping bombs on it until it stops moving. You'll definitely need a supply ship, and you'll probably want to find some critical part of the infrastructure that isn't well-defended. Once you've taken down their power/tech, the def bases will stop working and you can go after the juicy infantry.
As an aside, B-27s and other strike bombers are surprisingly awesome at killing both buildings and stacks of infantry, provided there isn't too much PD. I'd much prefer a squadron of bombers over several salvoes of bombs, provided you're not too worried about messing the place up a bit.

Missiles don't do damage to planetary structures (except for Planetary Siege Missiles obviously enough), only bombs do.

Well, the planets are obviously fairly highly motivated to defend themselves. You might have to find some allies in order to overwhelm the enemy defences.

I have found using a bomber corv or frig(fri better, twice as many bombs) fitted with an ecm will let you get in real close to an enemy planet (with out scanners on it) and basically remain invisible to the defenses .Move slowly in orbit (with ecm running) so your signature dosn't climb above 0.0.Your first target should be a tech station or such to drop their tech levels so their defenses stations stop working. If your bombs are being shot down by pd try moving to a target not so well defend and/or drop one bomb at a time but with the next bomb being discharged when the 1st bomb reload cycle is half way finished. If you're lucky one bomb in 2/3 will get through. Also make sure your nearly directly above your target for max damage. Then go for the troops, again be directly above them and aim at the diamond the troops are directly on or you wont get a hit,if you have a stack of troops, make sure you aim at the bottom one.troops take two bombs to kill one unit.also carry some troops of your own in your cargo bays,as soon as you've killed the last enemy troops drop yours and lo! the planet is yours!
THe closer you get = less time bomb is exposed to pd defense BUT!
A note of caution, there is a minimum distance at which you can drop bombs( i cant remember now how close you can get lol but it might be 130 au)

100gu from the planet surface is minimum distance. A little trick - if you have the area blanketed with enough ECM and fire your bombs at least 300gu from the nearest defense base, as long as that bomb is under ECM coverage the def bases won't fire at it - they can detect a bomb the instant it is fired (so if its inside 300gu & in their beam range they'll target it) but once ECM overtakes that & it's signature drops it should be good.

If the planet has multiple sensors it will take quite a few ships with ECM coverage to compensate.
