Alright, with the recent outpour of 3D Models people are messing with, I'm going to create a topic for people to post them in.
I don't have alot onhand, but I did make a few asteroids =P

Idea for particle effects after a bomb hits a planet, something like debris shooting out - Video(86k)

Neither Cruisers look really ICC'ish and I don't like the Carrier much. The other Cruiser looks rockin' awesome though, as do the asteroids.

The models I've seen posted so far are great (them asteroids are purty) but as far as ships go, I keep seeing the same general design: an elongated rectangular or oval-ish hull, with a sort of tower on top, or a 'cockpit' type thing in front, or something or other.
If DS is going to have varied models, I'd enjoy a bit more original superstructure for different ships. As far as themes and color schemes go for each faction, I'm alright...but as it is, its all a little -too- uniform.

Wondering what the dev's position is on asymmetrical models and 'tall' (say, a Star Wars B-wing or an EVE Heron).
Is there a code-side reason why the ships are usually symmetrical, long and thin(ish)?

The Mir aren't slim or slender, they are tall wide and fat...
Wont stay up for long, but here is a 2.1mb video *Alpha* render test of one of the two hanger pods being designed for the ICC carrier cruiser to retire the Guppy... 3d Studio shows some of the light maps brighter than the game does, so the bright window ports will actually match the rest of the ship in game.
These will be fitted to new carrier cruiser, much like my original design for the cruiser 2 years ago...
Basically the carrier cruise will have a slender body with the engines above and below the plane where the two hanger pods are, and the typical ICC nose will come up and above with a fin coming bown between the bays.
[Update]I may scrap the new hangers and go back to the hanger pods I made a year ago, here they are side by side.

now those pods i like
you could even swap those pods with the engine pods from the Command carrier and make em a bit closer to the Ships body.

Use the double decker for the dread if you ever going to change those and the single tube for the cruisers
also i realy like the color scheme you put on the single deck tube.

And I started on a basic mockup of an idea I had..

Arid Snowball makes me think Mars Terraforming gone wrong, I like it!
A big engineering ship, the port side of the ship holds all the drones, and when building, it has that side pointed toward the planet.
The right side has intakes that feed the engines (although from what I understand, that wouldn't actually work :/ )
The vertical fins were supposed to follow the arc of the planet surface.
The booms on the back are for scanning the planet.
ICC? Idk. :/
