would it be possible to just have your armor rings be an indicator of what it hitting you? i say this becayse for example, if a dreads armor hits a planet, it explodes without the ship actually touching the planet. Its just a collision detection thing but im sure it bugs a lot of people.

armor rings are incredibly easy for hit detection, aparantly. at least from what I remember asking the same to draf about like...3 weeks ago.

so short answer: no

long answer: not now.

Removal of armor rings and/or the decreasing of the gap between the ship model and the collision detection

He wants rings to only react to taking damage from weapons, and have ship-planet collisions on the ship model (Face collisions)

I wouldn't mind this, but was it even added to medusa before (mesh on mesh that is, as we already know weapons do this already on planets)?

And if they do that, they should make weapons look like they collide with the ship mesh too, but still damage rings like normal (depending on what degree the beams/projectile/missile entered from)

Now that would be a nice improvement.

Just imagine planets armor rings being invisible and perfectly lined up where the model ends.

well, not that simple, ctrl+click above/below, its not just the 2D plane, however, they might have just spherically done it

It'd be interesting to change them to armor ovals... give crossing the T and forward assaults more distinction from broadside battles.

no, I honestly thing that, baring medel collision detection, rectangles are a more realistic option then rings (see: all ships being rectangular in shape, except stations)
