Um, i dont know if any of you can help me with this....since i cant afford a new PC i might as well upgrade the one i have sooo heres my specs for THIS one
I have 1 of the First Sony Vaio Pentium 4 1.6's built way back in 2001 i upgraded the memory from 300+ too 512MB i have 2 Harddrives, and this is where my problem comes in i have a VERY old Nvidia TNT2 RiVA Model 64 Sony Vaio Graphics Card CHIP that came with this PC, now, it does what i need it too, chat, play basic games that arent demanding on my graphics card...BUT since the current Game i've been involved with some of the Modifications that are nessessary for Bridge Commander to work Require High End Graphics Cards...
For Example...The Kobayashi Maru Mod 1.0 requires a High Detail Monster Voodoo card for top of the line graphics but i run it low like super low...
I was wondering if some of you Comp wizards can help me out with a cheap graphics card for Under $50-100 for a 2001 Model Sony VAiO.....if not oh well...was worth a shot

just try looking for the budget versions of the graphic cards, honestly they suck and you should save up for a new computer BUT theyr way better than you have now... just make sure you get 1 with AGP instead of the PCIx

A sony VAiO is a laptop. You're not able to upgrade the graphics card on that.
edit: Unless you have the PC version, in which case we'll need to know the exact model so I can check the motherboard and see if it supports agp or PCI express

Seeing as how this thing is from 2001, and my computer is from 2003/4 and doesn't have a PCI-E slot, you're going to be looking for an AGP slot graphics card.
I would suggest this card. There are some cheaper, but as this one is only $60, it's very affordable and will serve you well for your older (2+ years) games.

You may also want to look at upgrading to 1GB of RAM, as RAM upgrades are quite cheap, as well as putting both HDDs into a RAID 0 configuration, unless you really need all the storage space.

true but that would be a bit of a waste if the computer is already so dated as his *no offence*.
my advice is to get a cheap budget card of the 6800 series or 6600 series *geforce* and start sving for a new computer.

See if you got a AGP slot available because that would improve your chance to actually upgrade your machine, Decent PCI cards are getting harder to find and there prices are higher than todays budget classes.
But when i look at your computer specs goth i see a old budget pc.
The only two bad points i can see on that thing are yes the graphics card but even the CPU, but considering its age i personally would not recommend a upgrade.
Considering what it requires to upgrade and what extra your getting for it i would say not worth the effort. but thats my opinion.
But considering your options and your budget i have looked at my suppliers:
PCI Club 3D GeForce 6200 128MB GDDR1 .. ~$75.50
PCI Sapphire Radeon 7000/TD 64 MB ? .. ~$45.00
AGP XFX GeForce 6200 A 256 MB GDDR2 .. ~$57.00
AGP Sapphire Radeon HD3650 512 MB DDR3 .. ~#131.00
(Both AGP require minimal AGP 2x to work so check your motherboard specs).
I personally would not bother to upgrade.
Bit if you do try to keep it as cheap as possible. and save rest of your cash for when you are getting a new computer.

Please don't kid him - a graphics card upgrade on that machine isn't going to improve gameplay on anything past 1-2 fps. Plus, a lot of the PCI/AGP cards actually have features removed/disabled because enabling them requires more bandwidth than the bus can provide.
If you take a close look, most of those graphics cards will have almost all their shader functionality removed due to the lack of bandwidth available on the PCI bus.

Jack is right. The computer is too old to truly benefit from an upgrade. The return would not be worth the investment, imo. I'd start saving money and build a new computer in a year for $300.
