Not needed. I played this game back in 04 and 05 (i think) and this was not in the game that I know of. Now you get a ship, orbit a planet, upgrade everything as high as you can, then play. Its a waste of time and server resources. If you don't level everything up, you don't last 2 minites in a fight. Just set each ship part to a level and thats it. Use your $ to buy different parts. For a Newbie, (Vice Admiral "Newbie") which i am after 3 years of not playing, its a big waste of time and a bit confusing. Also you would not have all this useless stuff sitting in the starport, like level 0 shields, now who would buy that. just a waste of server space.

I suggest you play beta, or read the dev log before making a suggestion...

From log
- Weapon and component levels are now clamped to the ship's hull-type.
Is that what this means ? No changing of Levels.
If so, I'm sorry for my rant above.

It means that (for example)

Destroyers have lvl 6 weapons and armor
Dreadnoughts have lvl 10 weapons and armor

Both cannot go higher or lower.

So, stay the hell away from a dreadnought.
