As many of u may or may not know i dont no a thing about computers so when i was looking at a laptop the graphics card was 'Intel Graphics Media Accelerator' i was wondering if thats enough to cope with Darkspace and other demanding games.

Darkspace? Yes.
Demanding Games? Oh so far from it.

Darkspace isn't really a graphically demanding game. Its more CPU heavy to me.

But just about every other game out there? With that card? No way.

I have a Laptop. I wouldn't even attempt to INSTALL Darkspace on it, much less any other game. because

1) it's a company laptop
and
2) It's.....well....a laptop

I got thin-clients here some of them have that chipset and the runn darkspace with no problem.
However as ENT said its more CPU intensive.
As for other games. Unreal Tournement 1! will runn as other games from last milenium. Some like games might runn WoW for instance but with all graphics at minimal.

I know manny people think that laptops came a long end since the last milenium. But most people only watch out for added gadgets and HDD space.
If you want a desktop replacement that has even a little punch, I recommend not taking anny that has a graphics chipset in them.
I had friends that tried the Nvidia chipset and i my self tried the ATI side i have to say the still lack a bit but for basic stuff like watching movies and playing MMO's on low graphics the will suffice. But if you want the punch of a desktop you need a dedicated VGA card in it and it has to have its own memory. this usualy means dubbeling if not trippeling the price and not to mention make it a lot more heavy.
It all depends if you want a mobile desktop replacement or just a simple laptop/notebook you use to travel with.

My solid three euro cent.

Intel GPUs are usually cheap onboard units to give generic 2-d graphic modes with limited DirectX or OpenGL support.

To properly play games, a modern DirectX 9.0C or DirectX 10 capable graphics card is required. These are available from nVidia and ATI, almost exclusively.

Darkspace plays on laptops, but I think you will discover CPU speed and slow <=5400RPM hard drives, and limited RAM to be more irritating than a crappy onboard video card. Limited ram and a slow hard drive means the game loads slowly, objects load when you encounter them (since they must be loaded from the hard drive), etc.

If you post the specs/model of your laptop, it may be possible to upgrade your video. Unlikely, but maybe.

This is a company that makes "gaming" laptops, which are much more expensive than their desktop counterparts for the same gaming performance:

You'll notice they have nVidia mobile video cards, and actually can handle SLI (which is using two video cards at once to improve performance).

I find some of these posts laptop racist, my laptop a HP ZE 4900 from 2005.....Can run any number of games very well, i manage to play things like counter strike source/half life 2/Tribes Vengance/ect. easily on it....My laptop is own....Anyway, im saying if you think itll work try it out, if it is really slow on your laptop, get rid of it, simple...
