actually... if i remember correctly a few versions ago we used to have fun getting a fleet of scouts and frigates and harassing the hell out of EADs, cause their cannons and torps couldnt hit us. just stay out of CL range and you can get an EAD to bail with 5-7 light ships.
the AD used to be a dirty and close fighting ship, but its changed quite a bit. you cant put something like the IC or QST on these ships and expect them to stay closeranged fighting vessels. for that matter, who would make a close range fighting vessel so big? please name me a dreadnaught class ship in history that was meant to close to close range to take out its targets.
leave the cruisers and destroyers to close range fighting. The EAD and AD have been relegated to where theyre supposed to be - the midline. you either move slowly in a firing wall or sit still blasting away, but you dont move in close because thats where youre vulnerable and thats why you die. this goes for ANY human dreadnaught ship. a big slow hulk isnt going to be effective against several smaller faster ships. when im flying the AD i rarely move at sublight except for cruising speed and to close within weapons range if i misjump/a new target comes in. if i get into a firefight im usually the rock, and my support is the hard place, with enemy ships generally making the mistake of falling inbetween as they try to get to me. even if they kill me they wind up being surrounded, which is never a good thing.
i know the EAD has an arc bug which makes it more difficult for this tactic to work, but if youve got a good support fleet it shouldnt matter because the attacker will be made short work of.
yes, the EAD was really nasty a few versions ago in close quarters, but you could still take it out one on one. as a matter of fact i took on 3 in succession with an AC without repairing between, way way back when UGTO were sending 15 ship fleets into ICC space every weekend, and when the EAD was at its best. the EAD is an assault ship - it needs an assault fleet to function in that capacity. dont presume its been relegated to support. theres ways around energy problems, ICC pilots know this from managing shields and weapons at the same time.
figure it out, and find its potential rather than griping about what its lost.
and yes btw i have flown it this version, and i did fairly decently with it.
