Considering Banshee's words of wisdom, why not use fleetwars as its name might imply? Pick a pair of wingmen, then challenge a trio to a fight. It will be more realistic to the real MV deal, possibly more challenging, and likely more fun.
Also more difficult to coordinate, but I think it would be a better measure of skill in the situations DS requires. Of course, you wouldn't be able to do a direct comparison ("I beat Crim in a duel, so I'm better than he" or somesuch), but if you have a good team and consistently beat other teams, you could make a strong argument that your team - and you as an integral part of it - is quite talented. I think that would generally garner you more respect.

Want to prove you are good at combat? Only way to do it is in the MV in a fleet. I personally have alot more respect for someone who can work together with everyone else rather than someone who can only fight when he is alone.
