I forget what they are all called on different factions, but on UGTO they are known as EWAS. These are fighters with ECCM I think. This fighter would be actually USEFUL if it had its own sightrange (like a planet, detecting enemies near it). Deploying one or two of these to the local Jumpgate would provide temporary surveillance for enemy reinforcements.

As it is, this fighter is useless. That simple change would really put this thing into common use.

Not really I've seen many a MD use EWAS. They aren't very usefull they would be way more usefull with some sort of carrier only command interface.

When its at a standoff and everyone is using big ships no one wants to sacrifice so while their sitting around planets they send one out to enemy planet slow but slightly effective I guess.

This scenario should never ever happen. Their should never be a fleet of dreadnoughts, because other ships (read: NOT DREADNOUGHTS) working together should be able to take them down.

on a related note: is a cruiser a big ship?

Well I would put a cruiser in the big ships category.

I beleive it comes stock with one.

@Rob I am not sure if I would consider a cruiser a "big" ship. Maybe in this version because they seem to be the ship of choice, but if it was all balanced out I always saw the cruisers and being the medium. Not small, not big. Manueverable but doesn't have the big punch a dread would hold.
