StarFleet Command 3 had been released and it was sorely disappointing, mainly the implimentation of Dynaverse. I went hunting for a new ship to ship space combat game that I could play multiplayer and found this and got hooked.

Alright, how did the Commander of Cool, the Admiral of Awsome, find Darksace?
I was playing a game about tractos, called A Tractor. I was rollin in my tractor, doing much of nothing, when a few players where talking about Darkspace.
I left my tractor alone that day, and have never looked back since.

Dear Battle Isle DarkSpace Fan,
Congratulations, you have been selected to participate in Blue Byte's online beta test for BATTLE ISLE®: DARKSPACE.
The sole purpose of this beta test is to prepare the product for a public release. It's important to note that a game in 'beta' is incomplete and should be considered as 'work in progress', many things will be changed and added to the DarkSpace over the next few weeks.
This is your opportunity to play a game early in development and actually have an opportunity to contribute to the final game. This also helps us stress test the Blue Byte Game Channel (BBGC) server code and identify game play issues and stability to ensure it's as fun as possible before the game is released to the public.
You can download the BATTLE ISLE® software immediately from this password protected FTP site:
ftp://darkspace:bids@209.198.165.39/
The download is approximately 24MB. Installation instructions will be found in the README file.
Please note that license agreement, conditions of use and the non-disclosure agreement are still in effect.
Your registration number is
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This number is for your use only and may not be given to others. You will need it to create your BBGC player profile the first time you log in.
Without a player profile you cannot play the beta test software. Keep this number in a safe place!
We ask that you send us regular reports with any errors you find and any suggestions you have for improving the game. Please use the Error Report Form on the BATTLE ISLE® webpages for doing so. You will find a number of ways to keep track of how the beta test is proceeding on the BATTLE ISLE® web pages.
Thank you for your participation and have fun with BATTLE ISLE® - DARKSPACE!

Dear Battle Isle: DarkSpace Beta Tester,
Since the launch of the downloadable Beta Test file online yesterday, we have experienced massive amounts of web traffic and understand some testers were either not able to download the file or log in to play the game.
To solve this problem we have collaborated with popular download location, FilePlanet to host the same Beta Test file for download from several other sites!
If you have not yet downloaded the Beta Test, you are invited to head over to
FilePlanet
http://www.fileplanet.com/index.asp?file=56610
or the
Blue Byte Game Channel
http://www.bluebyte.net/darkspace-e/betatest/betatest_download.asp?id
to download the file and start playing Battle Isle: DarkSpace using your unique ID key!
Regards,
Your committed Blue Byte team.
