Prologue

In the beginning, Mankind was far too caught up with their petty civil wars and problems to see the growing threat. While they had known the existence of alien intelligence, they did not know of the Mir, an ancient ‘Mechanical’ race, hell bent on eradicating all organic life. The K’luth had already fought the Mir, which eventually led to the discovery of the Human Quadrant of the Universe. When the Mir first came to the Human Quadrant, they were rare to see. They attacked randomly, and never stayed in one area. These where the scouting parties.

When the invasion began, Mankind knew nothing of it. They were caught up with a battle taking place in Ross 148. This battle would mean nothing, for they did not know of the devastating future that lay ahead of them. The K’luth where erased in merely days after the initial Mir invasion, they could only cause minimal casualties to the far superior force of the Mir. Mankind first learned of the Mir when a scouting party of the UGTO was attacked by a single ship in the Cincinnati system. The party’s leader was Admiral Michael Garner, captain of the U.W.S Galveston. They survived long enough to send the initial report out, “We have encountered an unknown species. They, or well.. It isn’t responding to our hailing signal. It seems to be..”.

There was no signal for help after that. UGTO sent two more parties to scout the system, only to find the debris of the two ships. As they scanned the surrounding system, they found no traces of human life. No signals coming from the habitable planets, no signals coming from passing ships.. Nothing. As they scanned the system, they came upon the first ‘mechanized’ planets, Little Heaven and Blue Ball. These planets seemed to be covered with a metallic substance, which ceased all forms of organic life. As they scanned each planet, it seemed that all of them had been ‘mechanized’. “It seems that the planets here.. They have been covered by this.. Metallic substance. It seems that even the smallest of microorganisms cannot survive in it. There is no one, there is nothing. We have found the Debris of the U.W.S Galveston and the U.W.S Chupacabra, there were no survivors.”

Four days later, in the Procyon A system, an ICC Attack Fleet noticed something. The K’luth had seemed to have given up. They did not stop the ICC fleet from capturing planets, and they showed no trace of being in the system. It had seemed to the ICC that the K’luth had never been there. The commanding officer of the fleet, Fleet Admiral James Watts, sent a message to the ICC High Council explaining his wish to explore further into the known K’luth controlled systems, for clues to this odd behavior of the K’luth. With the Permission of the High Council, the Fleet Admiral pushed forth into Lacaille. Here, the fleet found several areas within the system filled with K’luth debris. In his captains log, James described the K’luth debris as ‘fleshy asteroids’. The second in command, Fleet Admiral Jay Lawler was the first of the fleet to discover the three Mir ships, which seemed to be firing lasers into the terran planet Lopez. Fleet Admiral Lawler watched these ships, whispering over the communications line,” James.. These ships.. Their doing something to Lopez.. It seems to be turning into a giant ball of metal.”

With these words, the Mir ships slowly turned towards the C.S.S Shrike, and the three ships accompanying it. The Mir jumped in, far faster than anything the Humans had ever seen. Within seconds, the three ships around the C.S.S Shrike had suffered immense damage from the Mir weapons, which seemed to be a far more advanced type of the K’luth’s Disruptor. The second attack from the Mir followed up with a type of torpedo, which shimmered a bright metallic green. These torpedoes caused the three heavily damaged ship’s reactor cores to explode, causing the ships themselves to implode before releasing immense shockwaves into space as they finally exploded in a storm of debris. In the time before the second attack of the Mir, they had managed to send out distress signals out to the rest of the Attack Fleet. Fleet Admiral Watts was the first to react, setting a jump in between the C.S.S Shrike and the Mir ships. Over the communications line, he spoke calmly ,“All ships retreat. Do not engage the enemy forces.”.

Fleet Admiral Lawler had been shaken by the initial attack from these three ships, unable to give a command to his crew. He blinked as he saw the C.S.S Hood appear in front of his ship, and then saw the bright flash of the Mir weapons. Without thinking, he screamed out, “James! You have to get out of here, it’s suicide!”. With this, Fleet Admiral Watts laughed and replied over the com, “Yeah, and you need to get out of here too. I think my shields can hold them off while you plot a course and get out of here.. You are in command, Jay. Make sure the High Council learn of this..”. Fleet Admiral Lawler blinked, then commanded his crew to set a jump course towards the retreating ships. With a final laugh, James said, “Besides, the chicks really dig this kinda stuff."

(This is just part of the prologue, and theres more to come.)
