hi there i dl the game today and evertime i try to play its sayin failed to connect to server
is it down or is it just me?

Have you pressed the Update button at the top of your screen?

call me dumb if im being so but i cant see an update option
i click on my icon on desktop
it takes me to a screen with these options
lobby
tuturiol
mission viewer
map editor
setup
quit
i click on lobby or tutoriol and it says cant connect to server it may be down try later

It sounds to me like you havn't downloaded the latest version of the installer, or you havn't allowed DarkSpace to access the internet (via yourfirewall). Access your firewall and add GCQL.EXE in the DarkSpace directory to access the interent zone, or what not.

I'm guessing from that that you logged in via a web browser o post the question.
Once yoyu get to the pictiure of the ships with lobby etc on it - select lobby.
That then loads up GCQL.
At the top of that, you will see 2 rows of coloured buttons. Update is one of those. Select that - once the game has updated, you can then select play, choose one of the games and connect to it.
Piece of advice.
1) Read the manual - even just the basics.
2) get some cash together - mining, begging both good. They used to give a coupon worth 5mill as well - don't know if they still do.
3) when you go into the MV - upgrade your ship.
4) Don't expect players who have been playing for years and who are Grand Admirals to come and suddenly obey your instructions to suicidially try and take a heavily defended pllanet. Work with the rest of the team, people will help you and after 2 weeks you 2 will be hooked and unable to escape
