What I did:
Close everything (though of course minimizing would work), or otherwise make it so your desktop is visible.
Find and hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard. It should be in the vicinity of the Home, Insert, Delete, and Page up/down keys, though the exact placement can vary by keyboard.
Open an image editing program. I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro, but you could use a number of programs:
- Microsoft Office Picture Manager (if you own Office, its in the Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Tools folder in your start menu)
- Photoshop, or the like (such as my Paint Shop Pro)
- Paint (Programs -> Accessories -> Paint)
Then hit Edit -> Paste, or hit Control-V. That will stick the image in. You can resize it if you like, but using imageshack with a thumbnail kind of makes that unnecessary.
Save the image. Its best to do it in JPG format, and if you're given the option I think I put compression at about 20 or 25, in order to make the file size reasonable but still show decent detail. Stick it somewhere you can find it.
Go to imageshack. Right on the page that loads is a little upload box on the right half. Click the "Browse..." button, and find the image, hit OK.
Then hit the "Upload!" Button a few lines down from the browse button. It'll sit and think for a bit depending upon your connection speed. Eventually it'll load a page with a bunch of grey boxes with exciting web addressses in them, with some ads in the middle. Click in the box labeled "Thumbnail for forums (1)" and then hit Control-C.
Login to Darkspace, if you're not here already. Hit the Reply button on this thread, and then hit Control-V to paste your image link - or if you're in GCQL, control-V automatically goes to the room chat box, so you'll have to right-click in the text box and choose "Paste". When you submit the reply, it should have a little thumbnail in it with your desktop image.

His Cosmos icon isn't up-to-date, meaning he either plays WoW without the addons (not do-able, trust me), or hasn't played it in a while (most probable)!
