just a idea about point jumping n such but is it possible to implement something that would allow you to set a certian amout of GU away you want to b when jumping to a target so no matter what speed your going you land at that point.

I think he means he wants to know what the calculations are in the game to tell how far from the point you select to jump you are depending on speed. Like if its 100gu per 10gu/s speed or whatever

Its all different. it depends on the speed that you are traveling and the speed of the object you want to jump to. if you are to jump to a planet well i usually assume that i need to just 1000gu past it to pretty much hit it right on the nose. BUT... if you are at full speed then i wouldnt suggest you do this to a planet

Again for ships id say about 1000gu past them. but you need to take everything into account

that is already possible you just have to factor in your speed when jumping i figured this out already, its liek if your traveling at a speed of 10,15,20,25ect youll end up 250-750gu away from your target hence the speed thing to technically speaking if you want to end up closer to something you would generally want to either overjump or have your speed set to zero (0) either which would put you with in 50-100gu of your target.

Live well and Die fast.

what me means is he doesn't yet have the abilty to plot a point jump to come off at 10 gu's from his target so he wants the game to do it for him

moving jump point is an art form you only can get better at by training it.

as it happens you have the best and fastest computer allready attached to your neck (or most have).

you all ready have all the facts by a fast look in the nav, the distance to the target , how fast are you moving , targets direction and speed.

do it often enough you can make the calculations faster than you can select an command to do it for you.

Ragg hit the nail on the head with this one. This is something that takes experience, skill, and a lot of know how. I think making it an option cheapens it for people who actually have learned how to jump right on top of you while their moving 3/4 speed.

Just my opinion htough. Just keep practicing it will start to fall into place eventually.

Your jump will finish (shipSpeed *30) + (random variant of about 25%) gu away from your chosen target.

So you can't be exactly on, but you can get pretty close.

See the Sub-Light Drive Encyclopedia in the Tactics & New Players Section of the forum. It has DFT (Distance from Target) numbers. Meaning distance from your target when your jump ends when jumping at full speed, depending on engine type and level as well as vessel class.
