I know it's not realy effecting anything, but I'd just like to see a comet zoom by every now and then.. =P

Would be a waste of processing power, unless they were rendered as some sort of animated backdrop.

Somehow I have my doubts that an object akin to a single asteroid on an orbit path would take up so much processing power the game would cease to be able to function.
Thats just IMO though, seeings how the MV used to have aslew of those itty bitty bastards...

myVelocityX += MyAccelx;
myVelocityY += MyAccely;
myVelocityZ += MyAccelz;
Update();
oh, those poor poor cpu cycles.

Everything in the game is processor bound. Every update requires re-calculations, etc. It may just me one thing, but that's a few more processor cycles that the admins can't use for AI, or something else, like vital combat calculations.

i think he means comets on the background, like all those little white stars/dots

just simple eye candy.
client side.
not, not,not, server side.
it doesn't effect the game in anyway. it just....hey...looks good.

It would be cool if DS had HW2-esq skyboxes. That dreary blackness isn't too exciting.
Sure its not exactly realistic, but then again, star ships bigger than Luna aren't realistic either, so nyah. And plus, it adds some graphical shininess.
Yes I'm an asthetic nut; DS doesnt need EvE graphics, but seeing some soft backround coloring wont hurt. And if anyone claims that to be CPU intensive they are gonna get smacked.

I'm all up for making a skybox for DS
