winamp best audio player hands down
for mp3,ogg,m4a,flac, podcast streams ....and much more
it also have the best database function for your huge collection of sound bites on the market.
and what you need you can get (for free)
there is multichannel plugins available, if you need it , i prefer ac3 then set it to spdif passthrugh for mp3 (sound) files.
for video files on pc screen :
i use media player classic , zoom player, vlc, in that order.
for big screen (the 42") i use the
Open Source Media portal http://www.team-mediaportal.com/
like Windows XP Media Center Edition only difference, it can run on any system and have lots of nice plugins to use, its like Winamp for Video
and Inmatrix Zoomplayer functions nice there to, if you not into huge program setups.
dont forget the best codec pack out there K-Lite Codec Pack
(it include media player classic as standard)
have fun with it

Never tried Winamp but if you want a good library of music try i tunes. I find it really handy and easy to use. Also all the music is changed 2 either MP3 or WMA.
I used to like WMP 10 but I don't like 11. It's to cluttered up and is slow on my computer. Although my computer is pretty bad lol.
