Actually, $wiss is half right, I think. The MIR are definitely not open to regular players, but I do think that Mithrandir takes control of one on occasion...
Not sure though. Maybe it is a talking AI?

I flew to Legion base. it was easy.
I had ECM. you know, ping ping, nothing here yo dog
then my power drained out.
My targetting system froze so much, the only thing I could do was watch as my helpless ship without shields activiated died.

AH HAH mir are said to be AI and yet they can talk and fly. While admins and mods talk and fly with quite similar characteristics. Maybe mir actually AI, which means only one thing...
