Hmm.
Being an ex-astronomy student, I'm torn on this. Yes, the discovery of pluto was significant. Yes, Clyde Tombaugh, who discovered Pluto after decades of the astronomy community suspecting its existence, should be proud of his accomplishment.
But a big ball of ice is not a planet. It's a big ball of ice.
I think it's actually more good news than bad. But that's just me. I just hope they don't think about adding Ceres to the list of planets any more. Ceres is a bloody asteroid.

And a big ball of gas isn't a planet, its just a big ball of gas? Or rock? Not that I paticularly care, but that's some baaaaad logic

If a Ball of Ice isn't a Planet the the 4 Balls of Gas Jupiter,Saturn,Neptune and Uranus aren't Planets There Gas.

A "Big ball of ice" not making a planet is not bad logic simply because we have several "big balls of gas" in our solar system. It's actually in the definition of "big" that the logic lies.
Look at a diameter-comparison of Earth to Pluto, and Earth to the Moon.
Pluto is smaller than our moon, it's not on the normal orbital plane, and it's made of ice. In fact, there are some theories suggesting (though not proven) that Pluto was once a moon of Neptune that got slingshotted out into space when it came too close to Triton.
Then look at the diameter of Jupiter. Its sheer mass. There are different types of planets. Gas giants, rocky worlds, or icy worlds. But there are certain size constraints to what makes a planet.
Comparing Jupiter "big" and pluto "big"?. Now that's some bad logic.
