That is just pure fabrication. Darkspace was a rotating scenario server long before the MV was concieved. I know, I was there playing on it quite often.

Darkspace was designed to be played in the MV. If you dont believe me go download the old interview trag did with faustus. He states it in that.

And I also was around (i'll be it not that long) before there was an MV. But DarkSpace was always design with the MV in mind, not rotating maps... Faustus, Tael, Chris, Trag...they've all said it before.

The idea for the MV came after DS was already created (as a rolling scenario).

I'll only believe that's not true if Faustus himself posts saying such.

OK... IF the Manual is truely updated then you would, according to the Manual, only be able to pilot Destroyer Class ships and below. The bonus to this is you would also be able to pilot all Support ships as well.

I am not trying to make a GA/FA server attempt here. I think by uping the limit to Captain and uping the server time by say an hour this will make a large portion of the of those who play in there happier.

For the new player, by doing this, you exose them to a few more ships and, imho, make for a better MV playing experiance for not only the new player but the older ones too.

Right now, if it (the newbie server) is capped at Lt. Commander, you only get 3 out of 5 ICC Dessies, 2 of 4 UGTO Dessies, and 1 of 4 K'Luth Dessies...

Seems to me it would be better if you were allowed all ships Captain and below to be used, but again this is just my honest opinion.

The noob server is for noobs to test out DS. If they want to pilot bigger ships and become more involved in the game then they will have to pay up for a subscription. The noob server is not free just so they can play freely without paying. I say leave it like it is or lower the rank and time. Maybe that will get them to pay for it or go play beta.

1) interesting how different peoble see the "roots" of DS // there was a MV from the beginnig // no there was none

to say it (once more) loud and clear - the MV was inital part of DS since the beginning
and to "convince" the non-believer's - here a link from november 2001

http://actionvault.ign.com/features/interviews/darkspace.shtml

2) if something in the manual // ship-rank-requirment is wrong, it will be corrected (very soon)

its allways a point of view

as bumble correctly said

DS in the start was senario based, me bumble and a few others still around can remeber playing the first 3 map senario rotation (when the server worked)

but the mv was allways something in sight and on the drawing board, from the start.

if you think DS is (crash and lag_a_lot TM Bluebyte) and want the old days back watch for what you whish for.

old ds was 70 % lobby time 20 % playtime 10 % rebooting your own box becaus of crash blue screen of death, while richard was coding like mad to fix it.
