A wild Idea! ZOMG!
Maybe, we should apoint certain people to host servers if and when the DS servers go kaput on us..People are always willing to host them...My nomination, Backslash *Jack*

sounds a good idee.
but i aint volunteering.
i just scraped 7 diferent Counterstrike servers,
4 battlefield servers and 2 UT1 servers.
just becous my energy bill was gething to high.
thats no joke. think about it 3 computers running 24/7.

Computers don't actually use a whole lot of energy compared to say, a refrigerator or an air conditioner - the monitor uses the most energy IIRC.

Power supplies are usually 300-400W, and that's supposed to give a buffer, but still..
I think Pentium M's run under 25W, and the P4EEs push 110W.
When everything is running full bore (ie, in DS) you're probably pushing 300, maybe more depending upon the computer.
Refrigerators: 50-60W
Oven: 2500W
Microwave: 2000W
In-window A/C - 1200-2000W
Some various numbers I found around the place.

well the thing is with player run servers, 99.999999999~% never get prestige allowed.
and seriously, how often do the serves go down for an extended period of time (like hours, not minutes)?

I can run a server, but I dont want the trusted server flag on my account, as sometimes I like to play with the editor when im bored.
Up to the admins, but 99.9% of the time, they dont give out the trusted flag to players who dont have a proper hosted server. HalOS is the only person who has ever recieved the trusted flag and been able to host a proper server.
I have a more powerfull machine, but its not dedicated, so based off this, I dont think i'll be getting the trusted flag (if thats what your talking about).
