Well I'll first say that a lot of work went into developing this new verison, that much should be obvious and is appriciated. DS has made efforts to minmize the lag.

I think that the, "free trail offer" should be renamed the Beta test. It should be extended for some time or until a new version comes out that addresses the concerns people have.

This will get more people to play and test this version. As well as get and retain new players. I'm not informed on DS financies so maybe this cannot be done, but in the long term it would pay off.

DS has several selling points:

1) The community is one of the best online.

2) The game is well moderated.

3) The game engine is unique.

4) The game is progresive, that is you gain rank, can join fleets, etc.

I'm not hitting on all of them nor probably defining them as well as I could but those reasons mean that people want to stay with the game. If you can get people interested by hooking them in through a Beta trial then they would be willing to sub and pay money for those reasons mentioned.

The problem of lag and not being able to control your ship is fine in a Beta version. But I can't see people paying for it right now, in the numbers that were on earlier.

Plus the problems mentioned in other posts are making it hard for new players to play DS. New players are what will make DS survive in the long run. Right now DS has a lot of veteran players, that slowly will leave for one reason or another;.

I suggest we extend the Free Trial period by a few days, but for a different reason.

As we all know, Darkspace still had a few bugs that needed to be fixed, once beta was released. Some of us had monstrous lag, and some of us lost ships because of that, and a few not-quite-fixed bugs, a few unexpected problems with the players, and changes that weren't fully implemented, and needed further tweaking.

In my point of view, the first few days were a bit chaotic. But now that most everything has been settled, I suggest we add a few more days to the free trial.

Yeah, what sucked is... the new patch was released less than a DAY from when i moved to my new house, where i have no internet for two weeks. Also, a few days after i moved, i flew to the phillippines for vacation (and i still am, ill be back home on the 31st). So i completely missed the free trial >_<
It would be nice if the trial was a ticket recieved in the mail, not a date and time thing...
To add to that my subscription expired, it was supposed to end on the 25th i believe, but it says it ended on the 23rd and that it was due to the payment information being lost or something like that, in my profile it lists me as DEMO, unsubscribed, and inactive, but I might consider resubbing again next month so i can get used to all the new stuff without losing pres

I suggest the free trial is extended for new pilots, but people already subscribed get renumerated through a pres/credits jump.
Reasons are, it would reduce the financial implications but increase the player base.

Then how will the servers be paid? Big F can't support the servers on his own or anything and rely's on people paying for the game. I'm sure you can send international checks to here in Dallas, TX (as I live there myself =P).

No it should not be free, Its cheap now.
Go and pay £30 for a game you will drop after a week or so, DS is cheap.
Dont want or need sponsors.
The team have put a lot of time and effort into creating something unique. They should get renumerated, good old capitalism. It works.
Make it free and you will get people who have no interest in loyaly, or pride,
we pay our monies we take our choices.
If its free it will diminish your sense of ownership.
It will go downhill.
The community will be degraded.
Because we pay it means its worth it.
I propose that faustus and palestar increase the subs,
This game only costs me a few quid a month, bargain, i would be willing to pay more.
Cheap at half the price.
In fact i vote for a 200% increase in subs, but as its my suggestion i will take a 5% cut.
I LOve capitalism.

mostly because those games have a pretty big game company to back it up. palestar is ONE man + a few friends. the "other" free games are run by companies that probably have pay to play games to, that can sustain the "free" games needs.

As a totally seperate suggestion.....

Why not make the basic game free, then, when you reach a new rank, you have to pay xxx amount to get it implemented? This would work up to GA. Then if the GA's want to keep their rank, they can pay xxx amount for xxx time period. This would allow people to play and keep thier ranks, even if the times get tough, or the game gets screwed. Just a thought. I played another game like this once, and it was a pretty good payment scheme imo.
