With a shifting of his gaze from his bio-instruments back to the viewing portal, the Commander of the Beak emanates a wave of great pride and even greater satisfaction upon the arrival of, "Blue." For Churs, it had been rumored that it would be arriving just any Tin, but it was just ambient clutter within the neural net. But now, through the light-bend drive, he know it is true once and for all. For it is here, before his very sight.

The Commander lets out a deep-throated squeal of triumph as his relief squad begins to appear from the vast reaches of space. These must be "Blue's," escorts. Eager to see this wonderful, horrible vessel in action, he immediately taps into the neural net. His multi-faceted gaze glosses over, his vision hazing as he begins his encryption.

"Your timing could not be better. There is a fleet of viewing-vessels on heading 124/0 moving at 14.9. Viewing beams are active on several ships, suggest neutralization with extreme prejudice. My vessel; badly damaged. Infection inside AHS systems. ARS needs replenished, there is unknown condition inside killing AHS clusters. Precaution taken and suggested."

R'Atha be with us all.

--------------------

Suddenly, an ominous, un-natural groaning pierces the outer reaches of the black void of space that surrounds their ships. The Commander hasn't heard anything quite like it before, and the sound is quite deafening. He fears his hearing ports will be pierced and broken if it continues. Unaware of what it could be, unaware if this sound is friendly or no, he prepares for the worst.

That's when the return transmission comes through the neural net.

Move 64gu's towards "Blue's," nano-shielding. Drop shields, disengage light-bend. Drone builder standing by for repair. Once in Blue's orbit, completely disengage engine and propulsion. Repeat: disengage all engine and propulsion.

Power down all systems, shut Beak core down. Repeat: shut Beak core down.

Prepare for escort.

----------------------

This sudden strange news leaves the Commander confused and dumbfounded as his neural net transmission ends. He doesn't understand what is about to happen. Could this be a trick of the humans? Have they really learned that much about our technology enough to emulate one of our ships? No, it couldn't be. Their antiqudated minds don't hold the capacity to begin any neural net transmission. It was attempted on prisoner-101.33.564.113, and the results were messy to say the least.

In fear of breaching protocol, as well as his own demise, he does as he was instructed. He will his faithful Beak into the flight orbit of this massive, gaseous-planet based ship as the enemy closes in. They're within range to begin their wave bombardment, capable of shutting down his entire navigation system. He dotes, but only for a moment. The nose of his ship seems to all but graze the outer fringes of, "Blue." His nano-shields are off, his power core disabled. Even the cores catalyst has been deactivated. It'll take Churs to power the ship back up.

As promised, the Builder Drone moves towards his position, yet it still hasn't ejected the nano-cluster that will repair his ship. Something is very wrong about this. Experience and instinct tells him that this sudden change of protocol is most unusual, and could lead to disaster. Could his superiors be growing overconfident?

That's when it happens. Wave upon wave of something new and unknown to him or his crew splashes across the cosmos from the inner-recesses of "Blue." These waves seem to go on forever, and in a pattern pulsading both never-ending and extremely strong. Each pulse sends a hard knock among the Beak, like a common Gnarl-beast at your dwelling portal on payday.

That's when he beholds the awesome power of "Blue."

---The human ships....... They've disappeared completely, obliterated by light.---

((To Be Continued))

That's the point.. *eg* Nobody's supposed to know what "Blue," is yet. That'll be explained later. For now, all that's supposed to be known is that it's bigger than a planet, and it has a really nasty area-of-effect, light-based weapon that "seemingly" obliterates entire fleets of ships.
