After testing with other players, we have noted the server sometimes initially locks your connection at a low rate. Therefore you sometimes start suffereing lag issues when a lot of ships are present.

We spawned 18 AI in a densly packed area where most of the lag reports were coming from.

A large battle ensued and many of us did not suffer lag though a few did report issues. After verifying those users were on broadband we had them reset their BPS rate and they immediately reported improved gaming experiance.

So upon joining the server, open the chat box and type:

/bps 32768

That forces your computer to use the max bandwidth setting for the game.

it seems to be that old problem with objects taking up too much cpu time, but i thought that had been dealt with?

lovely, a number to remember! Is there any way to include a way to automatically enter that on join? I'm bad with numbers...

Incorrect... Its the ammount of data being sent is larger than some peoples connections are being auto-detected at. Once you set your /BPS to the max of 32768 you allieviate the traffic congestion that is causing most peoples lag.

Under the Setup menu, set your connection to Cable/T1 and it should automatically connect at the max speed, I belive?

That number is actually the max connection speed. If you can't remember it, just type in /bps 50000 or whatever is easier to remember, and it'll automatically do that for you.

To play devil's advocate, what happens if you type this in but you're not on broadband or your broadband is lousy?

I have good broadband so just curious.

My computer at work connects at around 3268bps that is pretty low if you compare it to the max connection speed. Eventhough I have T1 connection in my office.

Will check how fast I connect at home since my lag issues are pretty bad there as well.

One thing is that when I tried to connect using the /bps 32768 the computer at work frozed and game me some graphic error.
