02:01:36 [Admin]Tael: "Ok so i got a message from F that he might not make it or will be late due to a family affair..."
02:03:10 [Admin]Tael: "So lets see, well this week will be a slow week for me to do work on the Beta since my business partner is on a vacation so I am having to cover all the jobs myself... And I am going out of town friday... "
02:03:52 [Admin]Tael: "Good news is there should be a WOB update either tonight or early tomarrow which should address several ship layout bugs and add 4 more ships"
02:04:03 [CEC]Lonectzn: "nice"
02:04:13 The Anarchist: "o.o"
02:04:28 [Admin]Tael: "http://www1.palestar.com/darkspace/shots/050531/00000008.jpg"
02:04:31 [CEC]Lonectzn: "Will the assault dessy be getting a fix?"
02:04:32 [-GTN-]The Star of Enterprise: "What ships?"
02:05:10 [Admin]Tael: "Those are the C-208 line of ships... well the base 208 and then the 3 configurations its capable of."
02:05:34 The Anarchist: "wow"
02:05:42 The Anarchist: "what faction?"
02:05:57 [Admin]Tael: "Those are civillian ai's that will be used to flesh out the mv a little bit once we get the new server online"
02:06:49 The Anarchist: "sweet, anyways, when i go to the darkspace website i have a picture on top right it looks like a new icc frigate"
02:06:52 The Anarchist: "is that already in beta?"
02:07:00 [Admin]Tael: "eventually we may open them up to players once the player count goes up..."
02:07:28 [Admin]Tael: "these are relatively all low rank ships and are older than the ships currently used for battle"
02:07:55 [Admin]Tael: "where as, the Mir, once they go to player control (if player counts go up) will be all high ranked only ships."
02:08:39 [Admin]Tael: "These ships all come stock with ablative armor, which UGTO can make in their factories."
02:08:58 The Anarchist: "i lost you at 01:07:28 ="
02:09:29 [Admin]Tael: "So for those people thinking their cannons are so superior, they wont do much to these ships."
02:10:49 Maskerade: "called off?"
02:10:50 [Admin]Tael: "So the armor types are all in. they are: Standard, Reflective, Ablative, and Organic"
02:11:06 Maskerade: "nm"
02:11:52 The Anarchist: "what is the difference in strength between reflective and ablative"
02:11:53 [Admin]Tael: "Standard and Reflective can be repaired while in normal flight slowly... Ablative can only be repaired at a supply depot or by a supply ship, organic repairs faster but has a weaker base level."
02:13:08 [CEC]Lonectzn: "What about shields. there's a lot of concern about the energy cost versus repair rate"
02:13:20 [Admin]Tael: "Shield types are: Planetary, Reactive, and Active. Planetary are only used by planets obviously... Reactive uses little power while on, but sucks more power to repair or charge when damaged. Active draws more power while on to remain charged, but requires less power to recharge when damaged"
02:14:06 [Admin]Nax: "what would be the difference in 'levels' for a given shield type? more efficient at recharging? more total defense capacity?"
02:15:31 [Admin]Tael: "so in theory, a scout might be better off with reactive shielding so it has more power for sensors, but risks power issues if getting hit in combat.. Where dreads would prefer active shields where their repair cost is low while in a battle but the increased normal cost is not a factor out of battle."
02:16:05 [CEC]Lonectzn: "is the repair cost actually low? a lot lower than reactive?"
02:16:11 [Admin]Tael: "There is no this is the best just use it for any of the armors or shields... Otherwise there would be no sense in having them."
02:16:34 [Admin]Tael: "Yes, the repair cost is substantially lower than reactive."
02:16:43 [CEC]Lonectzn: "k"
02:16:48 [Admin]Tael: "without looking at the tables, about half..."
02:17:17 [CEC]Lonectzn: "how about repair rate, lvl8 repair it seems on par or just slightly better in points per second than standard armour"
02:17:40 [Admin]Tael: "A scout wouldnt be able to run all their sensors with active shielding effectively because of power loss. A dread cant risk the sudden jump in power consumption soon as battle starts"
02:18:20 [Admin]Tael: "All repair rates are factored by taking the base level for max/600"
02:18:55 [Admin]Tael: "actually longer than that... but basicly if an armor has 100 points at level 0 and 800 at level 8, its still the same time"
02:19:04 [Admin]Tael: "so 100/600 or 800/600 "
02:19:24 [Admin]Tael: "so you get more points per second repaired, but you have a lot more to repair for the same ammount of time."
02:19:46 [CEC]Lonectzn: "ok, but that means shields repair same rate for equal points as armour"
02:20:29 [Admin]Tael: "shield charging rates are different, they are also set to a shorter time than armor as long as there is still power"
02:22:14 [CEC]Lonectzn: "it is rather a long time to repair shields still. have to make up for the fact they can't use depots."
02:23:01 [Admin]Tael: "There is still a ship on the design block for a later patch that can transfer its power to an allies shields... but thats low priority for now."
02:23:16 [CEC]Lonectzn: "ok"
02:23:20 Fattierob (x2 Pistolet Makarov): "a floating battery in space?"
02:23:24 [Admin]Tael: "I'll go back over and look at the numbers, but currently shields should be repairing faster"
02:24:03 [Admin]Nax: "make it a planetary structure"
02:25:27 [CEC]Lonectzn: "a lvl8 reactive repairs in about 30% less time than a lvl8 standard, but that's a long time"
02:25:41 [Admin]Tael: "actually considered slowing down armor self repair a little more for the normal armors"
02:26:26 [Admin]Tael: "I've sat and watched ships in battle go up 1% in armor health every 2 or 3 seconds while in battle"
02:26:49 [CEC]Lonectzn: "yeah"
02:27:03 [CEC]Lonectzn: "it does make a big impact when you're looking at lvl0 weapons"
02:28:17 [*MYTH*]Drafell: "yeah, amror regen is a little fast"
02:28:26 [Admin]Tael: "also been considering the res loss issue... and need to sit down with F and convince him to up the penalty 10x of what it is now, but also reduce everyones res loss to 10%, so that noone is getting penalized for past play style."
02:28:39 [Admin]Tael: "they just need to learn to correct it because it will start to hurt."
02:28:50 [CEC]Lonectzn: "2k for a station?"
02:28:52 [CEC]Lonectzn: "ouch"
02:28:56 [Admin]Tael: "so instead of loosing 70 pres for that dread, you might worry about 700"
02:29:10 The Anarchist: "o.o"
02:29:40 [Admin]Tael: "this way you arent penalized for high losses you already have... did the numbers and a couple of people would go from FA to negative pres if we didnt reduce it."
02:29:41 [CEC]Lonectzn: "gotta consider if the ships are so valuable, then people just won't fly them. everyone is risk averse."
02:30:18 [Admin]Tael: "people may spend more time realistically in the smaller ships."
02:30:32 The Anarchist: "killing big ships "
02:30:53 [Admin]Tael: "pull out the dread for big fleet engagements, otherwise stay in your destroyer or cruiser"
02:31:16 The Anarchist: "about how much pres would we lose in those ships"
02:31:23 [Admin]Tael: "will also stop these people that are using the suicide bomb and transport runs to get points."
02:31:36 The Anarchist: "sweet"
02:31:37 [Admin]Tael: "sure you might get 100 pres on that suicide run, but you also just lost 300..."
02:31:39 [CEC]Lonectzn: "but then, i may actually start losing pres from bombing"
02:31:44 The Anarchist: "lol"
02:31:48 The Anarchist: "yeah"
02:31:59 The Anarchist: "sometimes we smack into the planet because of lag"
02:32:04 The Anarchist: "hopefully it wont lag as much"
02:32:04 [CEC]Lonectzn: "bomber cruiser x10 is gonna hurt when you lag"
02:32:23 [-GTN-]The Star of Enterprise: "@Tael But what if lag was the cause? Hey, you lagged into a planet, 700 prestige down the drain."
02:32:35 [Admin]Tael: "thats what F is working on... Plus the main server code is being ported to run on a linux server with 4 cpu's"
02:32:51 [Admin]Tael: "much better than the windows servers its on now"
02:33:12 [-GTN-]The Star of Enterprise: "*points at the What if*"
02:33:57 [Admin]Tael: "Its also why the admins are working out very exact and precise rules for determining if and how you get compensated"
02:34:02 [CEC]Lonectzn: "get station out, lags, hits planet, boom 2k"
02:34:05 [Admin]Tael: "things got a little out of hand."
02:34:17 The Anarchist: "or someone else wh's u into the sun"
02:34:27 [Admin]Tael: "Lag caused by your connection will not be compensated..."
02:34:37 [Admin]Tael: "Lag caused because of server load will be..."
02:35:09 [Admin]Tael: "the server in beta keeps track of the loads, you say you lagged, we check the servers activity log... "
02:35:29 [*MYTH*]Drafell: "good"
02:35:47 [Admin]Tael: "The current beta server is the oldest and slowest server we have, and honestly has held up far batter than expected under the loads placed on it."
02:36:08 [Admin]Tael: "Conditions that cause lag on it are nothing to the main servers, nor the new server."
02:36:19 [Admin]Tael: "the Beta server is a single processor PIII866"
02:36:34 The Anarchist: "ew PIII"
02:36:46 [Admin]Nax: "What's the new server gonna be exactly?"
02:37:05 [Admin]Tael: "like i said, its our oldest server, which is why its used only for beta testing"
02:37:23 [Admin]Tael: "if we can get things to run good on it, then we are in happy land for the other servers."
02:37:33 The Anarchist: "well"
02:37:38 [*MYTH*]Drafell: "its a quad xeon 700 server"
02:37:39 The Anarchist: "beta server....in my entir etime playing it"
02:37:42 The Anarchist: "it has never lagged"
02:37:48 The Anarchist: "o.O"
02:37:51 The Anarchist: "sounds powerful "
02:38:35 [Admin]Tael: "We've already started monitoring its process load and on several occasions where people have reported lag, only about 20% of the time has it been the beta server..."
02:39:30 [Admin]Tael: "Things that can induce lag on the beta server is when an admin is connected via the editor to update it, especially if we are logged into it and connected to it via the editor from the same machine and alt-tabbing"
02:40:37 [Admin]Tael: "alright, i have to run to another event for a bit... so if noone has anything else..."
02:41:25 [Admin]Tael: "ok meeting adjourned.. good night, thanks for coming"
