==============================================================================================
==============================================================================================
The pack contains a few changes, of which I won't go into detail. The graphics you see in this pack were done by a developer who then left suddenly after 1.483 was released. Because of this, we no longer have the art, and can't use them in future versions - so please don't ask.
I have updated this post with a simple installer, that will extract all of the files you need. You will however, need to make two adjustments manualy for this to work properly. I will, for the security maniacs out there, provide a zip file with the updated files inside of it as well.
The only change you need to make, is editing your config file. It is found in your DarkSpace directory, and it's named "config.ini". This can be opened in any text editor, although I strongly recommend notepad (it comes standard with all Windows OS').
A lot of you will not understand some of the text that's in this file, but it basicly controls what GCQL stores (your login names, encrypted password, text colour).
Why do we need to play with GCQL when all we're doing is changing the game graphics you ask? GCQL automaticly checks your files in the DarkSpace directory when you start it to see if there's an update. The annoying thing about this, is that the files in this pack, do not match the ones on the DarkSpace server, so GCQL over-writes them, un-doing all the work!
We need to disable this feature, which is easily done with a few clicks.
Click on Edit > Replace. A little dialog box should apear.
In the first field, enter:
doUpdate=1.
In the second field, enter:
doUpdate=0.
Click "Replace All".
Once you have done this, exit notepad, making sure you save the changes to the file.
Now, every time you exit DarkSpace (the game), it automaticly changes these values, so you need to do something to stop DarkSpace from doing this.
To stop it, right click on the "config.ini" file, and click "Properties". A window should apear, and near the bottom there should be a tick box, with "Read Only", next to it. This means that Windows will only allow DarkSpace to read from the file, and not make changes to it - which is what we want.
And then you're done.
That's it.
You're done.
Go forth, and multiply! No, wait...
Download the pack (ZIP)
Download the pack (EXE)
Note: I really recommend the EXE version, as it also makes changes to another file.

Hmmm I lost this thing a while back, glad to see someone posting it again. Maybe I'll try to get sceenies for it, but the one change is that the torps glow like they do in Star Trek. That should give you an idea for at least part of it.

Awesome Graphics pack, mate. Curious, though, will it work when the next patch comes out?

Right, im goint to post this here for all to see, clear as daylight. There is a darkspace graphics pack, that gideon created before he left, and works with the current release. It was never finished, and this will not be used in 1.483+ so dont expect these changes to be carried over as the art has been lost.
Here are the instructions...
First:
Download the pack
Second:
Copy all the .wob files into the DATA directory in your DARKSPACE directory...
so C:...DarkSpaceData
Third:
This part is the most important part...Pay attention, this is where most people go wrong.
This involves config editing manualy. To find your config file (config.ini) go to your darkspace directory (where you installed it) and open config.ini in notepad (or other text editor)...
Find BOTH OF THE LINES "DoUpdate=1". Set these to "DoUpdate=0". There is one under [GCQL] and one under [CLIENT], you will see what I mean. Then save and exit config.ini.
Now the following part you can chose to do or not...It is purely for saving time and to stop annoyance. Word of warning, doing this will not allow you to change your emotes unless you revert the changes. The game automaticly changes doupdate=0 to 1 when the game is closed after you have started it, which means next time you start the game, it will update. You can stop this by setting your config.ini to READ ONLY. Right click on the file, chose properties, and TICK read only, and hit ok. Your game will then never update again (unless you click update). You can undo this at any time by unticking read only and hitting ok.
Now load up the game and enjoy.

and the new ICC purpleIsh ion drive engine Trails have reverted back to normal Blue. which isnt a bad thing

The things which you said have changed...havnt..
Cloak is untouched.
The only thing changed with the trials is that they are now distorted and wavey.

i think your uggie toe too much jack..
the ICC ion trails on the back of the ship were changed to Purpleish in the last few weeks.
Since then I know that there have been probs with getting the Ion Trails to correctly match up with the back of the ship.
all im saying is that this has now changed and become the Favored ICC blue once again.
now i dont know about the Distortion / wavey but i do know my Blue from Purple

Bump...again...
I think this is a pretty good graphics pack. All except for the PSI Cannons look cooler.
If you don't mind straying from the normal and having to mess with the Update stuff....you should try this.
Darkspace actually ran smoother for me when I used this, though there was a strange lag problem that came up sometimes. However, it wasn't bad.
