Very few games have all the dynamics right... And when they do have them close, someone complains that its not realistic cause they got killed easily so the company changes it...
Take Battlefield Vietnam for example. In real life, M-60 machine gunners carried Law rockets on their packs into combat as part of their load out... Yet a bunch of people with no concept of real life (even after being shown actual pictures from the Vietnam war depicting the gunners with the laws) complained that it was not fair and to much fire power on one person. So they took the Laws off the M-60 kit.
Then the same people whined the M-60 was to accurate in the game and had it changed so it cant hit anything now, not even when the person is 5 feet from you...
I was an 0331 in the Marines for 8 1/2 years... Thats the Marine designation for Machine Gunner. My weapon was the M-60. I know that weapon inside and out and its actually very accurate. Prone to failuers, but if you know how to take care of it and guide the ammo in, she'll do what you want. (In fact each gun has its own distinctive sound, anyone in a machine gun section can tell you exactly what gun is firing 2 miles away.)
So again because of people who have never seen or handled one of these weapons in real life complaining because they dont believe something is as good as it is, it gets borked and twisted all to hell.
Needless to say, I've given up playing that game because the realism of the weapons and loadouts has been thrown out the window because of these people that dont know and are basing their whines on assumptions.
Many games do the same thing. Especially the first person shooters. Sometimes they are done simply to improve playability, sometimes because the people making the game have no real world experiance and never took the time to talk to people that did.
Thus is life in the gaming world.

Pfft. If you want realism, play Brothers in Arms, Road to Hill 30.

The graphics in that game are somewhat realistic. Thats about it.
Its a console game, designed to appeal to people who base their knowledge of realism on what they've seen in the movies.

lol, dont get me started on movies... In a movie a Grenade does a huge fireball and massive destruction... In real life there is a small fireball and a ton of grey/black smoke. In fact very little of the fireball is seen outside the smoke.
The destruction is mostly confined to the shrapnel and not the actual explosion.
Movies go for dramatic effect, unfortunately most peoples only exposure to weapons of war are limited to the hollywood misrepresentations... Even people that make these games only know what they see in movies...
So dont expect any realistic experiance from any of the fps games.

if you want realism on halflife try the firearms mod
it's quite nice
and if you want all those matrix effects try the specialists mod

/me wonders why Tael doesn't design the perfect first person shooter combat game with the uber realistic style to it

I've been playing CS since Beta 7, all that Captain Savage has said is very true, the weapons are quite inaccurate (ammo, accuracy, stances, positioning, etc.), and if you've fired any one of those weapons in real life, you would know why (thats if you care about realism). Tael's words are very true aswell. In popular games like CS and BF1942/V, people who think they are the most important person in the game whine and complain about how they got killed by some other guy with some other weapon/technique. In my opinion I would think dont listen to the whiners and beggers, creates more problems. Now the CS:S team actually played an april fools joke on everyone this year on April 1st because they apparently got tired of all the beggers. By the way good jokes.

i don't belive i said anything about realism being paramount.
the inaccuracies just annoyed me. as they always do.

CS mod team has never listened to the public idea's (with the expetion of one thing). You know why?
On a large scale game such as Counter Strike (very large), there are those who play the game, know how to play it, and well. They get on with life, know how to use the guns etc, and play the game.
The other type of people, are the ones who dont have natural skill, and get angry at the fact they keep dying because someone has played longer than them.
The expection being btw, was the riot shield for CT's (for anyone who has ever played CS 1.6(4412), the riot shield was introduced out of the blue, because so many people had complained about the terrorists getting to accurate and powerfull weapons (the colt is actualy exactly the same, but has 2 more points in accuracy, and 2 less in damage). This ruined the game, so many servers have no banned the use, or blocked it from being baught. They learnt from this mistake, and CS is still fine.
The reason there are innacuracys, is that the game needs to be fun, if the game were 100% accurate, one shot would kill everyone, etc etc. To allow a certain degree of playability, they merge ammo types so that people dont need to waste money on two types of ammo.
You may say that CS is very innacurate, and that its unreal, but...it doesnt explain why its the worlds most played game. Unreal and innacurate doesnt mean its not fun, and in most cases, making a very realistic game would result in fluke shots winning the round, and not skill, very much the 'spray and pray' aproach.
CS is meant to be a pick it up, and play it game. If it were too realistic, it would take that away, and slow it right down, meaning you would have to spend a while getting into it and playing it, not "Oh i'll have a quick 10-20 mins on CS". For instance, DarkSpace has a lot of innacuracys in it, if Faustus took them into acount, we probably would have a VERY slow game and a very unfun one. Accuracy doesnt always work, try thinking about it more, you will see that the designers of CS have actualy incorperated realism and non realism very well, by bending the rules slightly, changing ammo types, they have created one of the (if not the) best games of all time.
