I got an idea reguarding this..
Why not, say, the second a planet goes in invasion mode, to be realistic..
Either 1> Make scrapping during a invasion have a short amount of time to go into effect and fully remove the building. Maybe, a slow count-down of the buildin's health to zero. This gives a chance for invasion to go through, and hopefully be stopped if the invading force is quick enough..
Or
2> Make infantry perhaps gain a 'scrap buildings' ONLY during invasion, which they move about and try to remove every building they come accross. I think this would be the most interesting. It's realistic, and preventable with some hard-core bombing, but could still be dangerous.
I think if that type of option was put in, the infantry don't engage at all, so thus the planet will capture faster, but it might also end up crippled by the friendly infantry?
Really, I think it's more fair that way, as it's SO easy to totally destroy a entire planet. Go to planetary screen, just select building while hitting the scrap hotkey.
Let the computer control it if it must stay, to balance it out.

raze is usefull for taking down power gens or shields etc.
Only problem with the first idea is that it produces more CPU load...which in turn means more possible lag when action is going on in the MV.

Yeah or just an option that lets infantry set up nuclear devices in key structures so in the event of the planets captures those structures will be destroyed rendering them useless.
oh yeah like people been saying all through out this post Scorched Earth is a valid military tactic but i hear u they got some plugs just scrapping planet when it isn't even a dire situation.
Me i think its ok if its a last resort but otherwise nah.thats my 2 cents

Its a valid military tactic. Hower it might be better if it was somehow intergrated with the game.
Building can only be removed by an engineer.
Buildings have to be actively razed by defending troops.
Razing by troops attacks military structures only, not hub, domes or food production.

Just make scrapping have the same restraints as teh relatively new engi system, you have to be in orbit. Ta da! Problem solved, all you have to do is keep enemies from kamikaze orbitting

Yes. Being in orbit makes sense. Scrapping from afar does not.

I believe this issue was solved earlier, scrapping buildings is not against the RoC simply because the person doing the scrapping loses prestige for doing so. It may seem like a cheap tactic, but, it is still a tactic and perfectly legal. Think "Scorched Earth" policy, why make it easy for your enemy to overtake your territory? if you know you are going to be going into enemy territory bring an engineer to rebuild. But other than that if someone scraps the planet live with it and move on and take comfort in knowing that they lose 1-5 prestige for each building they scrap depending on the level of the building.
As this post has the potential to turn into a flame war and was resurrected after being solved, i am locking the post, any questions about the scrapping rules please direct them to the staff.
