an interesting idea...but does that mean that wormhole devices would be out? otherwise a faction could wh past the main fighting area and run rampant in an enemies backwater systems....avoiding the other enemy faction

The idea of loaded maps runs totally counter to the concept of the Metaverse.


What is out of key, is the fact that Faustus has mandated that the MV will be a totally persistant, live, universe, and DS is running a game design built for a transient scenario game.


What needs to be done, is the core issues need to be addressed, and the core designes implemented, that allow DS to become what Faustus intends it to be. That is, a totally persistant universe, not a map-cycle universe.


Your proposal would be for a scenario universe, which is not the route we have been put on. Sorry, but hell no. Doing this would be working against ourselves, and would be a monumental waste of energy and time because of that.

I think it's a great idea considering the balance of power but it could be done using the current MV map...

Your alliance scenarios remain the same but the reason behind the alliances change...

Say once a faction has taken over said % of the MV, then your conditions apply, same if a Faction gets critically below a certain % of the MV. Only difference is that we don't change the map, just change the alliance/threat flags.

It would balance the number of players per faction/side issue and give an extra challenge to be able to achieve a full MV conquest.

We don't need to change the map this way, just to add a few code lines that could automatically handle those situations in real-time. That way we could have real stories to talk about and a much less repetitive gameplay capping-wise.

Could this be implemented easily Gideon? And do you think it would fit in Palestar's philosophy about the MV mechanics?

As for my opinion, Map Rotation and the MV will not go together. It doesn't seem right to do that. As the Metaverse is one huge map with many systems linked together. It's meant to stay on this one map no matter what.

As for the alliance, that isn't a bad idea. I'd agree about the % in order to achieve an allience.

Nice Idea.

But I personally have long been an advocate of NOT fighting in the jumpgated systems, and ONLY fighting in the systems that are not connected by gates.
I also think there should be more ungated systems (yep larger MV)

I think this would:

1) Create a fairly safe environment for Newbies to learn how to fly, build, mod, Bomb(revolts) etc.

2) Increase the number of large scale 3 faction battles (by far the most fun IMO)

3) create a more player to player friendly environment much like we had back in the old 1480 senarios days. ( I remember when if a player was promoted or got a badge he/she was gratz by EVERYONE)

4) negate the need for an MV reset



Oh yeah I know what you're gonna say.

"But wiping out the other faction is the whole point of the game!! "

"But I wanna conquer Sol!!! "

"But I wanna Conquer Sirus!!:("

"But I wanna Conquer CD 36!! "


Well for me the whole "point" of the game is to have fun. I do not want to beat down the other faction to the point that NOBODY wants to play that faction anymore, and I can fly around the MV unchallenged.

I always have objected to entering Kluth or ICC jump gated systems, and in fact when UGTO had Kluth down to only a system or so I refused to continue fighting them. Why? because it wasn't fun anymore.

When UGTO/Kluth had the ICC down to ZERO planets and they shut down CD for 2 hours open to ICC only I created a 2nd account and I helped them, in fact HAD BEEN fighting with them against not only UGTO but my own fleet members for about 2 weeks at that time. Why? Because The ICC were dropping out left and right and the game had ceased to be fun for me.

I am UGTO and I suspect I always will be UGTO. My 1st loyalty is to my fleet, and 2nd is to UGTO...............But above all else I am here to have fun!

And I can't have fun if only ONE faction even wants to play in the MV.

Faction extermination MAY be the whole point to the game.............but for me that takes all the fun out of it.
