Well, I missed my first one, so I might as well make a big deal out of this one.

Jon's

Second Year Anniversary

wooth.

Ah. Two years, more than I've ever spent in an online group. I can say that they have been spectacular- I joined just before the 1.480 patch, and subscribed four days afterwards, so I was able to be around during some interesting times, it seemed. I remember my first outing into the MV, following these strange fleets like GDI and something called the GTN, and spent some time shuttling my frigate to the gate on sublights because I hadn't figured out the J key yet, only O... I remember fooling around trying to figure out why my ship kept on running out of energy and why people had to spend time 'modding'...

And then, my first crossing of the gate. It was so wondrous, the game: the beauty of the ships, the specular light effects, the sounds... And then I saw this gem of a world, Gefjon, and spent half an hour admiring it and the colorful effects it's anchor planet played on my hull. Then, combat. Real, strategic, combat. I was following this cool guy named TheEvilGriffin who was a member of that nifty 'GTN' fleet. I followed his incredibly huge station in my little basic supply ship into a trifactional fleet engagement. My screen was stuttering at sub 0.01 FPS, but I didn't care. It was glorious. Afterwards, I toyed around some more, and befriended folks like Flipper, Barthezzz, and Space Ghost, who welcomed me into their fleet like I was a member of the family. Oh, those little battles were great fun. We'd usually be huddled around Kahless' station in our group of a Dreadnaught, cruisers, and Destroyers, maybe a transport or two. One time we led this cloak and dagger mission to a backsystem (for you new kiddos, the MV used to look like a triangle with the rearmost systems called backsystems), our only escort a lone destroyer. We split our forces to get through more quietly, and I got lost and exited a gate face to face with- lo and behold- this fearsome Assault Cruiser. I was dead before I knew the name of my attacker, but the news spread that we were expected. I rejoined the fleet later, where we were huddled in deepspace in Kapteyns star hiding from a S&D fleet. We never really succeeded, but the wondrous new planets and stars I saw, and that Nebula!. It was all so exciting.

As time progressed, I moved on up in the ranks, saw the eventual doom of GDI, and moved to the ICC to work with them for awhile. Not that the UGTO was no fun- I'll never forget our two-or-three-hour hold of Lalande against wave after wave of Leviathan Fleet attackers, Trunks' incredible defense... I had just played the ICC first and wanted to return to those sexy frigates. I joined this cheesy and hilarious fleet called the S.W, and had the time of my DS-career there, it was great fun. After S.W went inactive for awhile, I hiked over to the ominous Agents fleet, where I spent time among some of DS's best, but that too went inactive. The rest of my time in DS wasn't nearly as spectacular- Evil was GREAT, but the K'luth ships and combat style never clicked with me- so I now stop this rambling.

So here I am, still a Vice Admiral, in an inactive fleet with some of my best DS friends, and I haven't been in the MV months. I hope these short memories can evoke some reminders of your own great starts, that feeling of "Wow, this is... huge" when you fly in the MV for the first time...

It has been an incredible two years, meeting new friends (and losing some) and I look forward to another year, and another, and another as long as these hallowed servers till function.

If you joined October 8, 2002 it should be 3 years unless things have changed lately.
