I hardly think all caps are required for the subject, and thus I edited it.

I know this is a suggestion, but...my experience even as a vet flying a small ship versus Cruisers/Dreadnoughts is...it stinks. Pretty much it's like you're a gnat stinging a leviathan, and it can smash you in about 15 seconds if it can catch you (and yes, with closejumping, anything can be 'caught')

But then, maybe that's not a bad thing. It'd bring new players into the MV, and they'd get to play and get a little experience with how it really works, and just enough of a taste to want to subscribe to get those bigger ships.

True, but concider two things:

First: In MV, you will have your own team, with it's own dreads to take care of enemy dreads.

Second: It's a scout vs a dread. Yeah, the scout should have better chances to escape (I'm working on that, BTW), but if a scout attacks a dreadnought...it deserves a round of applause followed by a quick death.

Another aspect to having demos in the MV:

Right now, experienced players tend to go into the newbie server, and stack up against inexperienced demo players. In the MV, the distribution of experienced players is much more level, even taking into account people stacking teams like we see every so often.

Really, I see nothing wrong and many good things about combining all servers into the MV. Just a little work needs to be done on the dev part, to make sure the demos don't have the potential to damage the MV.

I have to agree with Gid n this one, if it can be limited to where demo's can not unduely harm the mv. I say let them in, it would be much easyer to train newer player's in how the game work's. Rather than have them fear every vet they see coming into the server and on that note having new player's to train. Instead of having 1 on your faction choise due to rank balancing.

We need to change scrapping of items to a minimum rank - it would make sense that only certain ranks could give the order to scrap items on a planet - this would keep sabotage (intended or not) from being a problem.

We need to set the default in-game chat to system, not faction. Its hard enough to monitor combat and assist one player at a time without 20 new players all asking separate questions.

Newbie is NOT gone forever at this point. We do need a Server for new folks to learn the basics without being killed on sight.

No reason to get all upset, we just want to get more people into the MV and do some testing of it.

i think it’s only a good thing

with all the ships going around with constant fleets of +10 ships you priority ships that are the biggest threat or give the most hull damage points first anyway or most vets do.

imagine fleets of 10 - 20 frigates attacking 1 or 2 ships that must hurt

Though the learning curve argument could go either way. The "two hour" quick game with an outcome was a feature and now removes all newbie bombing ability and could stem engineering ability as well. I had a newbie shadow me in MV for 5 hours tonight. While he obtained a badge as we went along, he could do nothing with his fighter and was rather frustrated that there was nothing he could really do to help out other than be a target or shuttle some troops. Newbie bombers aren't exactly going to help much against 150% shielded Defense 17 planets... Just my 2cp on how it was tonight. Not a terribly bad thing, but per chance we just need some more "feature" for the newbie player to get prestige, as in joining a newbie server and building 3 planets by yourself when no one was around to play...

It was a good thing since the newer players REALLY were more jealous of the Dreads seeing them so much and there were plenty of destroyers cruising about as well. Perhaps just a little more slack for newbies to get prestige and I think the MV only server is a great place to be, both for veterans and newbs.

The problem i see with bombing is the fact that when a planet is fully built up, its rather difficult for the little bombers to do any damage at all.

I think a restriction on the number of defense bases allowed on a planet, taking into account planet size and strategic importance of the planet would handle this nicely.

Of course, who decides which planets are strategically important, and which arnt, thats the real question.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand. If the above solution was put into place, then we might start seeing planets totally dedicated to mining, with say little defenses, whilst planets on the front line or homeworlds would have greater numbers of def bases and higher tech levels.

I think the major problem we have in-game atm, is each planet has to essentially be treated as separate, with its own research, resources and defense.

For instance, we have no ability to decide which planets should specialise in which task. In reality (or as close as can be approximated), Earth would serve better as a homeworld whilst Luna would be a manufacturing or mining planet. Currently in DS, this is not accurately reflected as Luna can be built up to be a mini version of Earth!

im playing on the 7 day demo to see if i want to come back, and so far i will be. its nice to see the MV with 100 people on it, i left because it would have 20 and most of those were off doing their own thing.

the newbies need a way to gain prest easy to get better ships so they can work on combat badges and so forth
