Here are the error messages I recieved:
0: 64 MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce3 (Dell) 1600x1200x32 : Failed to initialize display!
Error : Failed to initialize platform; please run client setup to check your client setting.
I have a 1.7 GhZ Pentium 4 with Windows ME, and the GEForce3 type listed above in that error.

Hm, buy a GeForce 2 instead 
Erm no seriously.. you've downloaded directX8.1 yet and the latest drivers for your gfx card ?
And have you tried other screen resolutions yet ?

only go into the setup - choose the correct mode you want - and accept it
dont leave with CANCEL
btw. i think 1600x1200 is a bit heavy for this game - for me, 1280x1024x32 works nice
