I just installed Darkspace and I'm getting annoying sound glitches. There is a constant, loud chirping sound which is driving me nuts. Has anyone else had this problem? My sound drivers are working fine with everything other than this game.

Hmm...

obvious questions I think are:

1) Even if all other things ruuning fine with you current sound drivers, you got the newest drivers for your soundcard?
2) You got Directx8.0? (I think DS uses Direct Sound, but I'm not sure...)

I've had this problem as well....I am running W2k Pro with a SB Live....Updated to the most current drivers and I am still having prblms. The chirping is enough to drive a person to drink...it's interesting tho...I have another machine running W2k with a SB Live card and I don't have the problem....can't figure it out. Perhaps someone else has an idea.

well i have an older SB64AWE gold (4 years old in one of my servers) and 90% it worked fine - only when the timeout = delay of the packages was too great then the card used the last buffered bytes in a loop until it get new packages from the client - sometimes even the sound is completely gone til reboot - it lookes like the interupt priority depends in which PCI-slot the soundcard is installed - check if it is AFTER the NIC-card (count from the AGP slot/CPU) i think it needs to be after the NIC-card (PCI-slots have different priority depending on the distance to the AGP/CPU) otherwise the soundcard get more cpu-cycles then the NIC which is used buy the client.

ps: if u use a addon IDE-controller it can happen that the w2kbootpartition can't be found after swapping cards (blue screen and reboot) then there is no choise then to reinstall w2k or no sound.

Same problems here. Running XP and live. All up to date drivers. Must be a bug.
No problems with other games after last off. released live up to date drivers.

Wow, I figured it out. This was realy a fast one. It's very simple. The mp3 music file isn't played correctly. Delete the file in the music dir of Darkspace and the problems are gone. However you lose the beautiful music in the background, but it doesn't affect the gameplay

lol i never thought about this kind of bug...but it make sense since so many different filetypes are distributed especial in the soundsector.
