Thought of this 20 minutes ago while stress testing.

Basically solar generators are useless now. So why not have a new type of structure. High-Altitude Solar Energy Colector or HASEC. This would be a high altidude platform that would require a constant supply of hydrogen (not that much) to sustain it. Making them quite rare on anything other than large Terran planets. you would build it on the planet and it would launch to high alititude and travel in comparison the the planet clockwise so that it stays on the light side. It would generate the same power as the current solar Gen.

That's the main idea. but there are options.

Option 1: Doesn't take up a building slot but requires silly amouts of pop to run it. 5 or upwards.

Option 2: Takes up a building slot and requires 3 pop to run it.

Not sure about tech level or resources required to build it, but it would need hydrogen ofcourse.

EDIT: instead of 5 pop upwards for option 1 and 3 for option 2 it would be around 10 upwards for option 1 and 6 for option two. I'm quite new to these pop requirements for buildings.

good idea but i cant see the fact that 10 pop would be used for something that isnt on the planet....

They would go up with the platform when it launches

just build solar arrays. Engis will be able to construct platforms. Why not Solar panel arrays? We can call thouse arrays a "microwave cannon". Under normal circumstances it beams energy on the planet via microwave beam, where ground based struture converts energy, but when enemy ships show up beam is turned on them

Actually we have talked about it and are considering making Solar gens do more than double their output when in direct sunlight and then less than half while running on batteries on the dark side. this way you will want to spread out your solar gens and they will make more sense than standard gens.

Sounds like a good idea tael i like that. kind of like an advanced system for Vet builders who know how to get better power out of these Gens... I LIKE IT!

I personally like the solar array idea, it could be a fourth platform.
