I think it'd be cool if another ship could latch onto a larger ship and become part of it! Of course a dreadnought stciking onto another one would look stupid so I think only scouts should have this ability (attach to maybe only cruisers and dreadnoughts). This could help newbies learn how to pilot ships from more experienced players (yes I know they could just camera them but read on). Also at the same time, they could earn some combat pres by helping in a fight. The downsides for the turret is that a) It will be easy to destroy by splash damage and beams and b)It can't move.

The 'host' also have some benefits to reap though. It could draw maybe up to 50% of the turret's power in a fight. Maybe it could use the turret's engines.

EDIT:Sig

Interesting... Probably wouldn't work exactly like that but I like the concept.

Thats a good idea, but i have something to add, to prevent cheating(using the scouts jd) the docked ship(scout) would not be able to drag the bigger ship with his engines... which means the if a SS dock on a AC, and then the SS jumps, the SS will undock first, if its the AC that jumps, the two ships would jump at the same time(will turn at the same speed).

Make it so that turrets cannot cloak, or use special slot items.

Finaly the turret would be less resistent to damage then its attached ship.

A cruser would be able to have 1 turret, a dread would have 2 and a station 3.

Good Idea!

Id also like to see a system were instead of a scout jumps a station but a Carrier can jump a New class of Assult Scout..

Mainly a new take on the Command Carrier..

allowing for Vets and Newbs to play out some different tactical secenarios..

I suggest that the new carrier have a reload for the scouts

Carrier,
4IE, 3Cl1k, 1reload, 4 armor/shield arcs, 1or2 special slots depending of Faction, a few small weapon slots. and the new ability to have Hard points where Scouts can dock to the host ship. id say about 6 Hard points for scouts.

Carrier Scout

A new type of scout where there isnt a Jumpdrive and the scout is highly dependent on the carrier sticking arround to retrive the scout.

the benifit to this class of scout is that any newb can take one out and there is either a weapon, Armor or special slot advantage thats dependent on the faction your playing on.

I have heard that eventually multiple people will be able to sit in the same ship anyway. One on helm, one on enginering, one on weapons etc etc. If larger ships could have multiple gunners, each with their own weapons assigned to them, that would be cool

*memories of the Power Rangers and several hundred anime series comes to mind*

It doesn't seem all that useful to me, the Scout would probably just die all that quicker since it's stuck to a big, slow dread, and whatever benefits it gives would be more easily fixed by giving the dread more weapons (which is what's happening in coming patches IIRC)

Like the 2 above i dont see the use for it either.
All youll do is make yourself a better target by sitting attaching your normaly fast and low signature ship to the hull of a big slow ship?

The only faction it might be usefull for woukld be ICC, because small ships would be able to hide inside big ships shield bubbels.

But Kluth and UGTO have armor, which is plated on the hull.

Not to mention it will look stupid when you start sticking DarkSpace ships onto eachother

~It's an... interesting idea. It would give the newbies more of a usage in the games (I hear them complain all the time about not being able to do much of anything and being so bored and all o_o;;).

~Now, with what Bart said...... the technicalities would be odd. Would the armor have to be ripped apart or something to make way for the transformation or would they already have special outlet sockets for insertion or something?

~Oh, the possibilities......
