Although I know this probably will not be discussed, I still have to post my new idea of a ranking system, solving more than just one problem:

Solutions to:
- Ranking system (no longer everyone being FA)
- Balance within factions (no longer all good players in one faction)(MV only)

Idea itself:
There is a weekly average prestige count calculated for every faction, consisting of all players who played that faction for more than 5 hours (add something which checks whether people really play ore just sit in the safezone in a scout).
Example:
ICC Faction had 50 active players, their average prestige was 24738.78
UGTO had 25 players
Kluth had 25 players
This means that ICC had half of all active players, instead of the third it should have, therefore a factor is introduced to increase the prestige required for certain ranks (it should just differ between 100%-150%, no faction with FA requirement of 50 prestige)

1.5x(this average) would be the rank of an Admiral then, all other ranks
are then calculated as usual

This would cause two things:
1. If there is a faction with lots of players with high prestige the number of Fleet Admirals on this faction will decrease
2. This again will make people leave the faction to join a faction with a lower average, which will then again probably lead to a more balance faction system

I think we have enough faction hoppers and prestige whoring (in any kind). I for one am proud I were an ICC-man for about 2 years. Now I am UGTO and I won't leave it for getting more pres much faster and easier. And: I don't want to look every 5 minutes at my profile to see what rank I am currently, depending on my faction and it's player count. A definite *NO*!

Hmm,

I don't think so. The idea has merit, but I don't think I can
fully accept the idea. At least not at this stage of development,
or anything planned in the near future.

~It's a nice try for balance, but I'll have to disagree with it. I'd prefer to more or less stick to fleet loyality (though there are definitely things on other factions I like, I don't plan on budging unless my whole fleet converts ).

~Though it might prove in showing who the prestige workers are if we look at them hop between factions.

I don't like changing peoples' current prestige amounts or requirements, but maybe scale prestige gain to how many people on a faction...

I actually really like the basic idea - it does kinda make sense that only the top *yay* many could be Admirals - and I think this is something to be kept in mind, but people would go absolutely spare if you took their EADs off them. I think we can wait and see how the patch and eventual influence rules go, and maybe bring this idea back up then.

Player balance is definitely a problem in the MV. I don't think variable ranks is the answer but I like to see someone working on it. I haven't been able to come up with any better ideas, though, so I won't crap on this one.
