In the new version, it'd be spiffy if that in squares where units are battling, the game generated little explosions FXs placed around randomly, and they'd be visible for like 1000 GU. The number of infantry in combat in a square would determine the rate of explosions...

Just a thought but...
If the explosion was visible from 1000gu away, I would assume teh weapon that created the explosion would wipe any infantry from the face of the planet.

Yhea, and those stars are putting out more energy then the we have ever produced and ever could hope to produce. Still, even though we don't technically have it in DS, I bet you could see a big enough artillery barrage from space.

I fail to see your point DOM.

Think about how fast infantry kill eachother... they must be using porta nukes, or SOMETHING.

BTw bombs should also create more "damage" on planets.
At the moment their are just an Explosion on the Planet model.
Bombs should create a "shockwave" inside atmopheres. even though this would only be visiual it would look nicer

FYI... I always wanted to show combat between the troops in space, with little explosions and such... it will happen someday, once more important items are done...
I would put hit-specific damage on ships above this feature, I've already done some work towards this, but haven't fully implemented it yet... now that would be cool to have a scar from a beam weapon going down the side of your ship

It would be nice if CRITICAL damage on a ship left permanent scars. Combined with a crew/officer system this could really personalise ships.
BWAHAHAHA THE SERVER USAGE!

Now there's one visual that Volition just missed putting into Freespace 2, but got put into the cutscenes. *drool* [Ala Capella Goes Supernova]

Yeah, they should have put more videos from battles.
And the intro battle is great too, the Lucifer IS the Super-Destroyer.
