Tractor beams.
Imagine you are in a scout with one tractor beam, and you beguin pulling a station.
Your scout should be pulled back, and the station should move slowly.
Also, if you are in a station and push a scout, wooha! the scout should instantly come in your direction and you should slightly move.
I Think this is caled physics, right? We seen how players here like in game realism so... Think it would not a bad idea if it worked this way.
Cheers!!!

How does a scout getting pushed by something thounsands times its mass get the scout pulled toward that object?

This is why we are limiting the tractor beam drastically in numbers and ships that can mount it in v1.482.
Until such a time as we have applied more logical rules to the component.

Tractor beams cannot be effectively modelled as sticks attached to rocks. Even though 90% of people who bring the physics model to the table think they should.

Correct.
This same basic principle is why tugboats can move around objects many times their mass.
Like I said, more logical rules will have to be applied to tractor beams in the future.
Note: Not nessesarily realistic, as there are no tractor beams in reality, just logical.

I find that illogic is the most logical answer to a question of such illegitemate logistics.

I'd like to see a nifty change to the tractor beam (Besides allowing it to tow disabled ships.)
If you are in a dread, and a friendly ship (A scout for example) comes by going pretty fast, you should be able to slingshot the ship up to a higher speed by hitting it with teh tractor beam while they are turning in an arc (Like using a planets gravity to speed up)
This way, scouts can be flung into battle at 50 or 60 g/u. I think that would make for some interesting torpedeo runs with assault scouts.

Cojuring up what I know about tractor beams from various games...
The tractor beam uses some kind of magnetic force; not a solid one. Therefore, it uses magnetic fields to push or pull something; which has no direct contact with the vessel using the beam.
The way you people put it; it's like someone pushing something with a stick. Instead, think of it as someone pushing something, say, with a hose. It would have no effect on the originating vessel.

Tractor beams work exactly like a tow line, except tractors consist of energy and use hyper intesne magnetiv fields to "attach" one object to another, or atleats the most common theory on how they work and most logical.
The only real problem is to calculate the mass and enertial barriers for the different ships and how much thrust can be produced by varying ships engines, since the tractor should link the two ships like a solid bar is attached to both.
