i would urge the DEV team to look closer on the Steam client solution that valve have made for their games

its one of the most elegant shell solutions to launch games with i have seen to date

http://www.steampowered.com/

pfft...Steam doesnt even work normally...

None of my friends and a whole lot of other people accross the world cant connect to the Steam Network and Vavle couldnt care less...

No Cs 1.6 for us...Or Cs at all since all servers are switching over to 1.6.

Looks like Microsoft took over valve. Goodbye Hl2....

Already looked at it.

What, exactly, do you see as a value-add over what we have already?

Patch/Update/Content delivery system? Got it.
Online user identification and validation? Got it.
Cheat detection/prevention? Can't help us over what we can already do.

That, the fact that it is new and full of bugs, AND the fact of the recent HL2 source code theft reveals a lot of its internal guts to the hackers doesn't leave me with a whole lot of confidence.

Considering that the PRODUCER (ie, head honcho, da man, etc) uses MS OUTLOOK as his mail client says to me "I am an idiot and I am begging you to hack me".

No, I am NOT inspired by anything related to security coming from Valve right now.

you know, outlook actually works great.

Valve had pretty much full security. Viruses were SPECIFICALLY built to target them, and thus slipped through every virusscanner.

ok i better explain then since someone really takes my advice really hard

i was not looking for gameCQ to look like it or be exactly like it im not in anyway giving critic of gameCQ here, gameCQ can always get improved with more options in my book.

for me it was an easy installation all games (mods) worked instantly after conversion to steam cache.

loading times improved for me.

i like that the options for different actions are the same in game as in the client shell.

the shell don’t take up large amounts of resources

the design of the interface is nice user-friendly and easy to use.

look past that its one of the first versions of it just released and have some bugs and its a killer app is my opinion

something like this in this size is actual portable to cell phones

if this is what is gonna run hl2 im more than happy.

im going to ad stuff when i have been running it for some time.

btw hl2 beta

38% CPU usage with a 2.66 ghz P4.

Lets also not mention that the steam client is MISSING THE BUTTON LABELS.

I'm, sorry dude, but steam is worthless.

It decided to copy over my entire 1.2 gig HL directory into its steam directory as well. Wtf.

Yes, I agree! It is the best and most widely-available virus distribution and installation mechanism on the planet.

Uh, no, the primary exploit was a known buffer overflow in the preview pane.

First, ANYONE with ANY security sense WHATSOEVER knows to turn OFF the preview pane in Outlook.

Second, having the source code (ie, their "crown jewels") on ANY Internet-accessible system is probably the biggest security gaffe one can make.

So, I don't know what your definition of "full security" is, but if I sold my customers on such, I would be out of a job in less than a minute flat, and probably with several lawsuits pending against me for gross negligence/incompetence.

Plus arguing that virus scanner should find trojans ... lol

Maybe trojan scanner .... but not AV , all AV are useless in Trojan finding and active prevention ...

Also client firewalsl and process watchers seems be unknow to Valve (keyloggers for days/weeks unnoticed ...)

Well i feel sorry for gabe...

dont know witch version you are running and on witch system, the version i got runs flawless.

In the version i have i can ajust how much system it uses cpu time and memory

i can ajust both what chache size it uses for the games and how much bandwith it uses for updates.

only bug i have is that copy and past in dialogs dont work and i have reportet it ,should be fixed with next update.

anyway i think its a true improvement on the old engine and i like it over gamespy (never liked that)

Steam ill ceep it short
1 missing buttons
2 CS 1.6
3 Cheating
4 server IP

1:
ok its missing a lot i 2 have the darn missint buttons and all other jurks
the darn friends list is waked up
and the games list is in the fornt "symbols"

2:
CS 1.6 nice lets convert 1.5 to 1.6 so what we do we select Counterstrike
we ceep pressing the nect button until its starts working
not knowwing were copying our intire HL whit all supported mods
about 2 GB if you have all supported mods installed
+ the thime it takes is on my 1.8 ghz 3 hours

3:
cheating darn man CS 1.6 isnt cheat proof
i took the liberty to test out some of the early cheats from CS 0.91
the darn all worked :|
i dont know what valve was thinking but it looks like the ditched all the anti cheat codes and just copied the lates patches
i even got baned from 2 servers for using the simplest cheats
0.91: retractive recoil script and a headshot script aim fire and fragg
1.1: OGC 6.0 full execute scripts
the darn all work all scripts :S
i know this seems lame but if i try'd it than WTF didnt try'd it already
i dont cheat anny more since 1.1 so what about the active cheaters ??

4:
i think you all know HL origional server list
you had the little button called Add server
maby you say who needs it anny way
wel maby you didnt notice but !!
the server list is only a part of all servers online ??
so if you want a specific server forget it you either need a buddy who is in it or you gota have luck its in your list

thats how i hate steam
LONG LIVE WON !!
