"They will return home automatically when fuel reaches 50%."

Doesn't this mean alot of them won't make it home given the target ship and launching ship can be moving in opposite directions? Is that on purpose?

While Fuel > 55%
If MaxRange < .95*DistanceFromLaunchingShip then GoBack
End While

That would at least give the fighters enough intelligence to know if their carrier was running away, they need to get home sooner than just waiting to get to a half tank.

Alternatively, perhaps it makes sense to have 2 modes. One where fighters try to make it home, and a second mode where they fight to the death and/or they run out of fuel.

It would also cause the server to lock up until the fighter had less then 55% fuel. That would suck.

edit-also, assumably they fly around a bit once they get there and shoot. So unless you sat on the extreme edge of fighter range and launched fighters, and then moved away, this wouldnt apply

Well, it's yourjob to manage your fighters, you can always manually recall them...

Only time I ever found myself launching fighters at extreme range targets is when I'm standing still anyways, either at a planet or with a dictor. If you're forced to move away from the target in a carrier ship (only ship where fighters are the significant firepower) then you better cut your losses and run anyways.

Still, it might be a problem at some point... No clear, cut way to solve it.
