I think huge (dreadnought, station) targets should benefit less from a "sensor shadow."

It is more difficult for a Dread to hide behind a Sensor shadow, especially for a small planet. Only on the big ones can you effectively hide.
And Stations... well... you MIGHT be able to get in a sensor shadow... but only around massive planets or gas giants (anyway, its not like a Station is maneuverable enough to use a Sensor Shadow very effectively, unless for a Secret Base of Operations ).

Love it and Baikon's additions, but I think fog of war is not such a good idea. Maybe to a limited scale. The blind spots on planets and say the interferance from radiation (nebula) of a star would disrupt you being detected when sneaking around I really like. This game already has a type of "fog of war" with the enemy you are tracking disappearing from view when he ejumps. Maybe I'm just not understanding, elaborate on how you'd like to see the fog of war work.

OK, New Idea Entirely.

Howabout probes, and Recon fighters?

Recon fighters would be High speed, sleek looking, and somewhat stealthy.

The would only have a range of say 10,000 gu's. They would harry no weaponry, and have a Scanner only, which would activate only once they reached the target destination. Unlike regular fighters, Recon's would remain on your nav screen even once they are out of range of your vessel, so you can track their progress.

Long Range Probes.
Anyone Here play Homeworld? Well this is the same sort of thing, a 1 shot probe, that once sent off cannot be moved again. It would carry a tachyon drive enabling it to cross the distanced between star systems. It would also carry and ECCM, and a Scanner, and like the Recon fighter it would remain on your nav screen to allow you to track it.

As to what kind of ships carry these devices I can't say. But I think ICC should get the Probe, and UGTO should get the recon. And K'luth should get a goat launcher.

PS, Probes and Recons could help in Triangulation
