We've all seen em. The Rear Admirals who don't know how to build planets, the Vice Admirals asking how to do precision jumps...  I had a nice idea.
What if certain badges were required for each rank? The Prestige totals would remain the same, but they would be a minimum. Examples:
Current Captain Prerequisite: 1280 Prestige
Captain Prereqs with Badges:
-1280 Prestige
-Bronze Star
This, of course, coincides with the fact that someone of the rank "Captain" should be versed as a beginner in all fields. If they cleared 1280 prestige but didn't ahve bronze star, they wouldn't be promoted until after the star was obtained.
Current 1st Rear Admiral Prerequisite: 5120 Prestige
1RA Prereqs with Badges:
-5120 Prestige
-Silver Combat, Silver Bomber, Silver Transport
(Just speculative examples, folks)
Current Fleet Admiral Prerequisite: 40960
FA Prereqs with Badges:
-40960 Prestige
-Gold Star
Of course, you'd need the previous rank before you could be promoted to the next rank.

No, Dom. You have to have the previous rank before getting the next one. That goes without saying...

What he means is that you meet the requirements for 1RA(couple silver badges) but you may not for Captain(bronze star).

as a casual new player its hard enough 
but i can understand your point of view though.
for me its feels like badges is pretty hard enough to get but let me play som more and maybe ill change my mind you never know

i just love the idee
so i dont see 2 RA ers in missile dreads E jump in the sun or
a 2 minutes left FA server map whit stil no defence bases on flag planets
