Methinks the Stations have already been changed for the balance patch.
It would be better to wait and see how all ships work then before suggesting changes.
I do however agree that stations should be more like this

i like the idea but i dont think it would call for changing the curent station but perhaps creating another one and calling it a battle station so there is support station and battle station and subscribers would have to reach 100,000 pres to use them and make it 7,000,000 credits for battle station.

well my magor beef with the stations are that every thing is on full arc meaning one little emp and all your systems are dead.

id like to point out that right now stations lose all there systems at about 45 hull menaing they can do nothing but sit there and get shot at

of coruse they can log if your lame but some one with honor like me or some one like Demorian would never log and you just there and die

Or add more ship types, to bump stations up higher:
Current:
Frigate
Destroyer
Cruiser
Battlecruiser
Dreadnought
Station
Idea:
(same)
Battlecruiser
Battleship
Dreadnought
Superdreadnought (Starfire!)
Monitor
Supermonitor
Leviathan
Juggernaut
(Station?)
It would give more ship options, and maybe even put in 'Cargo modules' to simulate the space needed to store materials (Metals, Urdanium, etc), and personnel bays (for troops). Troops require life support, while metal can just get stockpiled.
So a Frig could have ~12 spaces available for 'stuff'
2 Engines (2 spaces)
Shield (1 space)
CL300 (3 spaces)
Pulse weapon (3 spaces)
3 * Cargo bay (1 space/ = 3 spaces)
Capital weapons would require more space, so maybe a CL1k would require 6 spaces. So the Frig above could remove the CL300 and Pulse weapon, and install a CL1k. Makes for a nasty surprise, but 1 missile from the bad guy, and if you are set to PD, your whole offensive suite just got distracted.
