PS: u can still own a planet with inf, just takes awhile, the hover carrier would shorten it a bit but bombs would still be better... wait nm, bombs wont work at all if theyre still using that silly *as many bombs as r on your ship* thing

A long and well filled out post, so I will respond to it piece by piece.

Well, we are first going to test our new fighter configs and types before we make a final determination on the capacity of carriers. Changes to the number of fighters carried on ships is not out of the question, but will have to be concidered after a better working knowledge of our new fighters is accumulated.

I have no idea as to weather the number of simultanious fighter lauches can be changed within the code as you describe it. I do know that different fighter "slots" (bomber, assault, interceptor) can have different recharge rates, power requirements, and ammo capacity. Perhaps ammount of fighters per minute by type could be a different way of looking at lauch rates?

As to the appearance and the topic of this post:

Do not think of dread, cruiser, destroyer, etc class ships as being the actual class of the ship. Think of it more as a mass category. Military ships over a certain mass are dreadnoughts in DS, reguardless of the combat profile. I would like to gently remind everyone that the ICC has multiple models per ship class for dreadnoughts and destroyers. So, this shows that models are attached by specific ship type, not general class. What this boils down to is that carriers can have a distinct model from other dreadnought class ships from the same faction.

Additional: As of v1.480 we are using a different database configuration to store ship data. This will allow us to differenciate basic hull data between factions, and possibly within a faction between ships in the same class.

Planned for a later modification of the fighters, along with them gaining xp level allowing players to form elite squadrons and players losing resources for wasting such valuable pilots.

Unknown as to whether this would be feasable within the game. It would have to be a simple and easy to use interface, with appealing and logical tradeoffs for each alert level.

This is already planned to be part of our initial update to fighters, as well as allowing players to have fighters hold in an area while they launch more, and then move them all off together as a group, form them into task groups, assign them general missions (attack interdictors, escort X ship, etc.), assign them mission priorities (attack interdictors, then Demorian, then enemy bombers, etc.), and AI routines that let them switch their targets according to their mission priorities automatically.

Good idea for an additional fighter type.

We have assembled several others for possible implementation later, including but not limited to: cloaked strike fighters, jump fighters, heavy assault fighters (with shields or armour), recon fighters, etc...


Glad to see someone else who wants carriers to fill their role of being carriers. Keep the ideas coming.

oh yeah gideon one more fighter type its a primarily antiship type of fighter 2 versions one that drops special torpedos (u can't use these on ur ship only fighters can use these special light torps) they are weaker than those ur ship launches to be able to be mounted on a fighter
and the second version launches AS missles just a improved version of the IT missle again just popped up in my head torpedo fighter idea may work but would be slow as the bomber fighter also a heavy torp fighter would be availible more heavily armored and can carry more torps

make that 2 more fighter types this is a Electronics warfare plane what it does is it jams the radar of enemy ships this can be defeated by using better targeting systems and radar systems that are resistant to jamming the effectiveness the EW plane has on targeting and radar systems depend if they are standard or improved they have a harder time on different ship types the jamming also requires the jammed ships to come within 250-400gu to be able to engage automatically also i agree about the idea of elite pilots i was thinking of that but thought someone might not like it also i think u should be able to send ur elite pilots to a school (like the one from Top Gun) train them to be better or u can hire mercenary pilots also if the EW lane happened to enter visual range of a jammed ships the PD would automatically engage

oh yeah about the hover carrier idea lets just call it the dropship would be able to carry ur armored units also the dropship would be armed with air to ground weaponry and a nose cannon so when a dropship dropped a unit right on top of a enemy unit the drop ship(s) would automaticall engage the enemy ground units on its way to the LZ

also fighters should be able to carry drop tanks these drop tanks carry extra fuel to allow a fighter to go farther without refueling i think this should be added to beta ill make a seperate post about drop tanks
