I have played the beta and have read a lot of posts about the long jumps.
i cant disagree whit em its realy boring so i came up whit a new jump drive.
the catapult drive.
Its fairly simple.
This drive is FAST!!!! and whit fast i mean HOLY SMOKES fast.
a 300 sec jump whit an AMJ will be cut dont to 100 secs.
However and here is the real sour part its takes an insame ammount of time to recharge even for a scout it would take the time of a AMJ fitted dread to charge. * warning should NOT be used by stations *
Its only use is to get to other systems FAST its in no way able to jump to the rescue cuz you would need to live long enough to get out * and its LONG *
just get to a friendly planet in the target system and either replace your drive whit a tach drive from cargo * hope that supply is near * or buy a drive from the local starport

Station has a cool thingi named Wormhole drive which works like:
you open a event horizon which goes through another dimension which is compressed more than normal space and you exit at the other side and for balance issues this thing has a total distance of 1 000 000 GU (proc map from kluth gate to edge[SUX i might add]) which in real life (if done) should have infinite distance..... dus makeing the station even MORE useless.....killing 1 class of ship i say....

Not every fleet will have stations there.
also if the attack on a system has begun you want help a bit faster than 5 mins wait right?
think of it as an alternative for the wormhole since the nmy will be able to see where one is forming

if its solely purpose is to cross the mv fast, make it a one-way drive. use it once - discard it
and make it realy expensive. a price depending on the ship's size. lets say 50k for 3 dessie, 75k for a cruiser and 100k for a dread. and it won't fit in a station. it's not supposed to be a quick rush-in-kill-rush-out vessel so it's not supposed to cross mv faster than now

No.
This would neutralize the point of having no jump gates. Enough said... if you want to know what I mean, read my thread about not keeping jump gates.

I would prefer it to work slightly different, myself.
A fast jumpdrive, about the speed we see in the current Tachyon Drive. Good recharge. Only it's short-range. Anything larger than a Scout would be hard-pressed to use it over interstellar distances.
Then there's a "slow" jumpdrive. We're thinking OLD jumpdrive slow, where it takes 4 minutes to cross Cygnus. It would have a much longer recharge, but a VASTLY improved range. Even a Dread could jump two or three systems out using it.
Idea being you can get speed, or you can get range. Not both.

the jump cruiser will get a toned down wormhole generator as well, as i understand it..
what ever that will map to in kluth/ugto terms i dunno.

This is a good idea, if interpreted in a different light.
Put this new jump drive on a few ships.
Give these ships an additional slot, a heavy jump drive slot, alongside their regular jump drive.
Kluth Talon
UGTO sensor scout
ICC stealth scout
UGTO interceptor frigate
Kluth stinger destroyer
ICC Jump cruiser
Thats it
For add kicks, make the drive do this----
1. Once you reach your destination, the drive takes 100% damage, and must be fully repaired.
2. The heavy jump drive also breaks your regular jump drive, and it must be repaired as well.
3. The heavy jump drive consumes 175% of your ships rated engine energy generating capacity. This means that even if you aren't moving, you'll loose power. If you start to move, you'll quickly run out of power.
4. The heavy jump drive takes 360 seconds to recharge. 6 minutes.
Voila! The ultimate long distance scouting ships. And a couple deep space enemy harassement ships. A forward invasion force, if you will.

@ Ax, what would stop a Station from having a Spare JD in the cargo?

@ jim, i agree, Because this would give me time to run to the Galley ( upstairs kitchen) and have my cook ( GF ) make me a sandwich and then id return to the Bridge ( Dwn Strs com room/den ), and be back in time for then end of the jump.
